The MAAST Events Committee is happy to invite you to:
MAAST's March Frag Swap
Sunday March 14, 2010 (2:00 - 5:00)**
Hamilton Community Center
(inside the LadyBird Johnson Park)
10700 Nacogdoches Rd. San Antonio, TX
(Located outside Loop 410, near Wurzbach Parkway)
**Members who plan to set up a frag tank may arrive 30 minutes early for additional set-up time.
This event will include:
Members will bring their offerings of propagated corals, fragged from their own tanks, to share with one another either by trading for other corals or cash. Tables will be available to display your corals.
Fajitas with all the trimmings will be served! (sizzzzle!)
Successful acclimation practices will be shared.
Fun Swap Meet activity for charter members - see below for details.
Entry fee $5 for charter members or $10 for web members.
Post here if you are planning to attend, so we'll know how many fajitas to make. If you have questions, post them up here in this thread.

Details on the Swap Meet Activity...
Charter members who wish to participate will bring a frag donation to the March Frag Swap event, which will be placed in the Mystery Frag Pool upon sign in.
You will receive one ticket for each frag contributed to the Mystery Pool. Ticket numbers will be drawn randomly and the holder of the ticket can pick their frag prize from the pool.
Participants who are drawn later can "steal" your prize away from you and send you back to the pool to get another, but each frag can only be stolen three times!
(This Swap Meet fame was inspired by the fun we had at the December meeting with our white elephant style gift exchange. Participation is completely optional, but you will wish you had brought one to play!)

Does it matter what kind of frag we bring?
If i bring my girlfriend and she is not a charter member nor web member what is here enterence fee?
If my girlfriend is off that day we'll go
Oh and do i have to stay for the whole 3hrs in order to be in the mystery pool
Mr Cob
Mon, 1st Mar 2010, 03:12 PM
My wife and I will be there and we will "play".
I need to pay for her Charter membership before then.
Sounds like fun....can't wait.
Can you post the details of power for our equipment or is it customary to just bring a box/cooler of frags labeled and bagged already???

Good questions Rob...
We have plenty of outlets at the community center, so if you are of a mind to set up a small frag tank, just bring an extension cord for your electrical items in case it's a reach to the outlet. Some people find they get a lot better response with a frag tank, as the eye candy gets us drooling and reaching for our wallets!
Alternately, it is also perfectly common practice to bring bagged frags. It can be helpful to have photos of the mother colony or the frag itself so that people know what the colors will look like. Many like to post their offerings in the For Sale / For Trade forums to allow folks to "pre-order" so that they know how many goodies to frag. (And that gets us all primed and ready for the Swap too!)
I'm sure there are lots of other ways I didn't think of, so chime in if you have a different approach to get the job done.

Sure, post it up in the "For Sale / Trade" forums as a Frag Swap preview.

Sorry, I totally missed these questions Gilbert - don't want you to think I'm ignoring you!
Bring any kind of frag you want... For trading and selling, we will be happy to see all kinds. For the game, I think it will be fun to see which frags get fought over, so I'm planning to try to bring at least one that I know will be popular.
Yes, the girlfriend would count the same as a web member and would be $10.
The mystery pool Swap Meet activity will be towards the end, so you would probably need to plan to be there near the end of the meeting, but not necessarily for the whole three hours.

My wife is going to accompany me. Also, do I need to reserve any table space for a frag tank display I plan on bringing?

We've had a HUGE response for the mystery Frag Exchange game, so we're going to put a limit of one frag per person for the game. This is just to keep it moving and so it doesn't take up too much of our time.
Really looking forward to this event!

If you are needing extra time to set up a display, you can arrive 30 minutes early for set-up (so 1:30).

I, as well as my wife and son enjoyed spending a few hours with people that share the same interest. I enjoyed seeing a few old friends and meeting some new ones.
*On a side note, I would especially like to thank Ace's wife, Karin (if I remember correctly) for going out of her way to take any of the leftover baked items to my fellow skaters in back of the meeting hall. Yes, I know I am 37, almost 38 and shouldn't be on a board, but old habits are hard to break, luckily it is a habit and not a bone.

Awesome dude, I didn't know this happened. This is a good thing for those kids back there. Personally I don't know how you do it. I've tried to get on a board, but my center of gravity is all wrong.
Great job committee team!

Actually, after she (Christie) handed out all of the goodies and left, a few of the kids were saying how great it all tasted. They even asked what was going on inside of the building since it was closed off to the public (so to speak). I told them it was a group of saltwater enthusiasts who were hanging out with one another and trading frags (I then had to explain what a frag was). I gave them the website address since a few of them really seemed interested. You never know, we may have a few new young web members because of simple human generosity. .

Nope, the frag swap is an annual event, although we may have some mini-frag swaps at some of our monthly meetings throughout the year.
This month's meeting is the San Antonio Zoo event...
