On Sunday my light (Aquactinics Solar Flare 6x54w) started flickering following a bulb change. Also, the exhaust from the fans started to smell like burning electronics. I know that when just the moonlights or dawn/dusk bulbs are on there is no flicker and the burning smell goes away, so the problem must be with the 660 ballast that runs the day lights (or the end caps or the wiring to one of those bulbs). I contacted IceCap and they want me to send them the ballast so they can repair it.
So, my questions are...
Do you agree that the problem is most likely with the ballast? I don't want to go through the trouble of mailing it to them if it isn't actually the problem.
Will two 54w T5's on an IceCap 430 be enough light for my SPS to survive while the ballast is being repaired? If not, any recommendations for a temporary solution?
