I recently picked up an Elos Magnesium and Alkalinity test kit and have had the opportunity to run them through their paces. In light of the long review of the Seachem Aquavitro stuff I just posted I figured I'd keep this one short.

Magnesium
Advantages:
1. No upper limit on measurement range unlike the Salifert kit.
2. Excellent and very pronounced color changes during titration.
3. Reasonable pricing.
4. Appears accurate and is perfectly consistant so far.

Shortcomings:
1. Takes a long time.
2. Tedious and requires counting MANY drops. Think 30+
3. Requires 2 seperate titrations using 2 seperate fills of tank water.
4. Resolution is only in 50 part increments.
5. Takes a long time.
6. Don't lose count of your drops.

Would I buy it again? Probably not, but it is a reliable and accurate alternative to Salifert if availability is a problem.

Alkalinity
Advantages:
1. Straight forward
2. Fast
3. Clear and sharp color change during titration

Disadvantages:
None really, pretty solid kit.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely, its reliable and competitively priced, nothing wrong with that.
