View Full Version : NOW READY FOR PICK UP: Gorgonians, LPS, SPS & softies from Scientific Coral Farm
Europhyllia
Mon, 8th Feb 2010, 01:29 PM
The gorgs available to us through group order are:
http://www.dominopads.com/SilverGorg400.jpg Silver Gorgonian Muricea laxa. Probably our hardiest gorgonian. Very attractive color. Fast grower. The body is silver. Two sizes available:
3-5" for 29.99 - our price: $22.45
5-7" for 39.99 - our price: $30.00
This gorg is also sold through LA. If you want to see better pics and a more detailed description click here (http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+601+2835&pcatid=2835) for reference.
http://www.dominopads.com/longpolyp.jpg Large Polyped Gorgonian Eunicea sp. . Two sizes available
4-6" for 29.99 - our price: $22.45
6-8" for 39.99 - our price: $30.00
This gorg is also sold through LA. If you want to see better pics and a more detailed description click here (http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+601+2834&pcatid=2834) for reference.
http://www.dominopads.com/RedSilver200.jpg Rare Silver "Red" Gorgonian Muricea laxa . Very nice rare red color morph of the silver gorg. We got it quite some time ago and the picture doesnt do it justice because its too fuzzy. Two sizes available
4-6" for 39.99 - our price: $30.00
6-9" for 49.99 - our price: $37.50
This gorg is also not sold through LA.
For group orders they give a 25% discount off the prices listed above.
Also available in VERY LIMITED numbers, no discount are the following gorgonians:
http://www.dominopads.com/daintygorg.jpgPurple Frilly Gorgonian. Probably the most sensitive and delicate of the gorgs we sell. Not as fast growing.
4-6" for 29.99 - no discounts
6-8" for 39.99 - no discounts
This gorg is also sold through LA. If you want to see better pics and a more detailed description click here (http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+601+2837&pcatid=2837) for reference.
http://www.dominopads.com/PurpleBushy.jpg Purple Bushy Gorgonian, available in Two Sizes. Very bushy polyps with long extension. Probably my personal favorites. Probably the second hardiest gorg we sell, after the silver gorg. Also a very fast grower.
3-5" for 29.99 - no discounts
5-7" for 39.99 - no discounts
This gorg is also sold through LA. If you want to see better pics and a more detailed description click here (http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+601+2838&pcatid=2838) for reference.
New Info Added:
Since there was some interest in purchasing corals other than the gorgonians Noel from SC suggested a 1-months powerbuy for our group. He'd post a page specifically for our club and each member could order and pay individually what they want (how convenient, right?!)
Then at the end of that month the order ships to one address.
I work from home and can pick up the order as soon as Fedex opens but I understand that not many people would want to make the trip out here to LaVernia so if it goes to a different location that would be fine with me as well. Or I can pick it up first thing in the morning and then deliver it to a central location as soon as somebody (ace?) is available to further distribute it.
I'll get the answers to all the other questions later.
More new info added:
The minimum order size to get the discount is just $300, before shipping
Shipping charges will be right around $60.00 including the box charge and heat packs
The purple frilly and purple bushies are basically sold out. There are a few left but not many, and they can't sell them at a discount.
If we give them the okay to proceed they may be able to set some purples aside for us and those go to the people who posted about them first (Ace, Kristy, myself, and so on). He's counting them right now. If you want a purple (frilly or bushy) post to this thread. No need to post your selections if you do not want purples.
By the time this is setup we might not have any of those left if we don't reserve them. But they have plenty of LP gorgs, silver gorgs, and the rare red gorgs all in really nice sizes.
The 6" gorgonian "frags" arent frags at all. They will look just like the pictures. When they are that big, they branch naturally. These are fully grown gorgs.
You can order any other frags at 25% OFF as well. Here's the selection of LPS, Softies and SPS frags they carry: http://www.scientificcoral.com/NanoFrags.htm
They will setup a powerbuy page just for MAAST that will explain all the details.
So... do you guys think we can get $300 worth together? We will have to divide up the shipping. Is everybody okay with that? Do you want to divide it just as an even per person split or as a percentage of order value?
Current list for Purple Frillies and Bushies:
Purples:
small purple bushy: 3 - no more available
1 Karin B
1 Julia T
1 Yvonne C
large purple bushy: 3 - no more available
1 Kristy D
1 daniel v
1 Michael S
small frilly gorg: 2 - no more available
1 Justin N
1 Kristy
large purple frilly gorg: 3 - 3 more available
1 Karin B
1 Julia T
1 Ace
I'll add names to this list based on order of posts. Please know that if I tell Noel to reserve those he will take them off the regular website so only post your name if you are 100% sure that you will take the purple for regular price. I'd hate to reserve them and then people not following through.
update 2/26:
The powerbuy is almost over. What's going to happen next?
To avoid any mistakes, after the powerbuy closes,SCF will compile a complete list of sold items and who they go to. They will send that to me, and I will confirm it with our members via email. Its easy to make mistakes when there are so many small orders so we want to double check their list!
Once they have confirmation, they can setup a ship date. So our PB closes on Sunday. On monday or Tues at the latest, we will get the master "key". I will then have our members check it.
SHIPPING: shipping charges as stated in the first post are $60 total and will be divided amongst all participants. I will let you know how many participants we had when I get the list and you can pay Kristy when you pick up your corals. :)

i am interested in the small size of each of the last two. just let us know how to proceed :)
i really would like the other purple one they have too. by "not available for group buys" do they mean no discount or we can't order it at all as part of the group buy?

is that the same one that they are selling?
Europhyllia
Mon, 8th Feb 2010, 02:08 PM
No it's a different one. The one you got from me is actually a pseudopterogorgia bipinnata and grows really well. :) I have two big ones in my tank and they're just always happy. Kind of confusing with people naming different sp. the same common name.
From the pictures it looks like their frilly is more 3 dimensional while my frilly eventually forms more of a sea fan shape.

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/mar2004/invert.htm
I looked up the SC one on LiveAquaria (they sell SC corals) and they call the SC purple frilly a Pseudopterogorgia bipinnata as well so see ... you already have that purple frilly I guess

I am in for:
Purple Bushy Gorgonian 5" - 7" - $34.99
Large Polyp Gorgonian 4" - 6" - $29.99
I will be interested in the answer / response about the purple frilly one also. Otherwise, sign me up for those two.
Just curious: Am I correct in the assumption that it is describing a solitary branch of the specified length? Or is it more a branching colony, such as pictured (except in the Large Polyped one)?
Europhyllia
Mon, 8th Feb 2010, 02:49 PM
I just had a purple frilly on the frag exchange (link (http://maast.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57093&highlight=frilly)) and my frags were only 3" long with some branching. I think they'd have to go out of their way to not have multiple branches on 5"-7" frag. I'd assume you get one stalk with however many branches come off of it in those 6 inches. I'll ask. :)

Ace I am sure they're happy to add anything we want but I will ask about discounts and restrictions.

I volunteer to receive / help distribute if the end of our power month happens to fall between Feb. 20 and March 16 (which I think it would unless we drag our feet). I am not working for those weeks and could be around to do the legwork.
Let me know if that seems like it would be helpful. We are off IH 10 and Huebner near USAA but could meet at a central location if that helps.
Now I'm off to check out the rest of the website!

Karin,
Thanks for putting this together. Yes, you can count me as a "definite" on the purple one I mentioned previously. I would also be interested in the purple frilly, either size - whatever is available, but I have not seen a photo or price. Will I find that on the website?
Thanks so much for asking my question about "frags" vs. branching pieces, wysiwyg, etc. This place seems very impressive, so I'm very glad you have shared your findings.
I agree that we will have no trouble meeting the $300. Typically shipping is divided per person, but I will be agreeable with however you (as the group order organizer) choose to do it.

Thanks everybody for participating and THANK YOU Kristy for receiving, dividing and repackaging everything!
I hope everybody's order turned out okay and all corals will thrive. Please let mw know if anything didn't turn out okay and I'll contact Noel to find a solution.

Everything is looking great. The gorgos are beautiful and the colors of the LPS are amazing! The lobo looks nothing like it did in the picture on the website...it is infinitely more colorful! The scoly is awesome and the blastos are small, but extremely bright red. I couldn't be happier. I need to try to get some pics up. Thanks again Karin and Kristy!

Anyone have corruption's number? We had to acclimate his corals to our tank, which we really didn't want to do. Plus I know Kristy is eyeing some of them now. Please hurry... :)

I just PM-ed him yesterday because I hadn't seen him online for awhile. I do not have a phone number for him. Perhaps we can reach him through his brother Jordan N. I will contact Jordan and see what we can do.

Thanks Karin for your efforts to help track down corruption! Justin, hope everything is ok and that this is just a mis-communication.
It has been one person after another, non-stop, on the delivery train since the pakage arrived this afternoon. I seriously just finished the last of the unpacking / acclimation about ten minutes ago. It ended up being a lot of work because of the way that they were packaged (mixed in together, etc.) and because three people were not able to pick up today.
Mine look really great. I am especially pleased with the scoly and the purple bushy gorgo, but they are all wonderful.
I am a little concerned about some of the judgements I had to make (like is this a "Fluorescent Green Singularia" or is it "Noel's Original Fluorescent Green Leather?" or perhaps the "White Star Sinularia?" all packaged together without specific labeling to tell which is which and not showing their truest colors in the bag!) I really hope we didn't send the wrong coral with the wrong person.
Mike keeps teasing me about finding homes that I like for these corals, but I really just want to get them to their rightful owners before anything goes wrong with them in our tank!
Great to meet all the new folks today. Wish we'd had more time to chat. (And Ace, thanks for the compliments on the tank. Photography is not my strong suit and Mike's pictures are ridiculously bad, so we'll have to bribe someone to take some good photos some day!)

Oh Kristy I am so sorry it ended up being such an ordeal! I owe you.
I am sure if anything gets switched we can swap it back around.
I'll forward your feedback to Noel. I think they shipped them together like that to be able to protect them in the egg crate but it really was tough to tell which was which.
You handled it like a pro in your kitchen coral shop!
All of my stuff turned out great. Funny enough I was really after the purple gorgs but my favorites turned out to be the large polyp and the red gorg. The mini red blastos are cute too. I should have left them for you.

Ah, no worries Karin. I'm just being a martyr! ;)
I spy lots of pretty polyps out this morning... how about all of you? :)

:D I am still rearranging stuff but everything looks happy.
Noel wanted to say "Thanks" for the orders. I'll wait a bit to see if anybody has any concerns before I respond to let him know it all worked out but we'd appreciate separate bagging next time ;)

My stuff looks great this morning. I am loving the frilly...polyps out, swaying in the current. All of the LPS are puffed up and looking happy. I am still trying to find the perfect placement for everything. Don't want to make anything permanent until after the swap...

My frilly has great swaying motion too. Really lovely! It appears to like the nice high flow just fine, as the polyps are all out nicely... (but then so are the polyps on Justin's frilly and his is in a lower flow area of my tank, less swaying going on, so who knows what it likes!)
I am also trying out "temporary" locations without affixing them too much until I decide if I / they are happy with the placement I picked.

I tried to get a picture from the site, but apparently the links no longer work and they no longer sell to the public; just group orders.... So here is what I got and the sencond pic is what I was expecting to get. I'm especially interested to hear what Rick thinks, perhaps this is his? Nay, I"m probably being paranoid.
She (coral) gets progressively happy each day, so I am axious to see it bloom!

Yvonne, you can still find the coral photos on their site, just click the link that says "take me to the corals!" and you will see the same photo choices, just not available for the public to buy individually. This is the photo of the neon green finger leather singularia that you ordered.

I had bookmarked some pages so I still have access to it:
D-08 Fluorescent Green Finger Leather Sinularia
http://www.scientificcoral.com/Dealer/D-08.htm
Looks kinda like your little knobby thing but of course no telling what the other things looked like.
I think the others people ordered were:
B-04 Noel's original Fluorescent Green Leather
http://www.scientificcoral.com/Dealer/B-04.htm
and
C-10 Fuzzy Star White with cream polyps
http://www.scientificcoral.com/Dealer/C-10.htm

hm... I don't know the white star and yours are both knobby little things...
The fluorescent leather is out though. It's either Rick's white star or your green sinularia
I guess the polyps will tell for sure...

I really hope you got the right thing (or will be able to swap it around).
I am so happy with my tank right now. Everything (including the new additions) is healthy and I finished gluing stuff down in their final spots this morning.

So you ordered one (sinularia) too, karin?
Europhyllia
Mon, 15th Mar 2010, 02:10 PM
nope. no leathers at all for me.
I meant Rick and you can swap if you both ended up with the wrong kind (only yours are even close)
I had 4 different gorgs and a red blasto.

I looked over every frag very carefully. The only two I was not completely sure of were your singularia (Yvonne's) and Rick's singularia. It was just not possible to know which was which until they opened up more and showed their colors. So, if you have any doubts about it, you and Rick should compare notes and determine if you need to swap.
Rick picked his frags up Friday night and it had a chance to hang out in our tank for a little over 24 hours and definitely began showing some nice neon green coloration. I gave him a head's up that it might be yours and you guys might need to trade, which he indicated would not be a problem. However... Rick has a complicated schedule and travels quite a bit, so timing might be tricky.

Ah... sounds like there will be a swap. I am so sorry that part didn't go over better.
Rick's an awesome guy though and I am sure he will swap with you as soon as possible

oh and my tank is doing better. If it helps Rick can drop off the green at my place and I can bring it into town to swap it and then bring the white star back here.

I looked at the pictures too. Although it has a greenish tint, mine looks like the C 10 white star sinularia to me. I'll look again when I get home.
What did corkyg order?
Europhyllia
Tue, 16th Mar 2010, 02:53 PM
fluorescent green sinularia

I'll take a picture later. I'm fine with trading her if there was an error.

Here it is. There is a greenish tint, but it doesn't look like the fluorescent green to me.
Karin what do you think?
Europhyllia
Wed, 17th Mar 2010, 05:38 PM
Hm. Rick ordered the C-10 (picture link here (http://www.scientificcoral.com/Dealer/C-10.htm))
Yvonne ordered the D-08 (picture link here (http://www.scientificcoral.com/Dealer/D-08.htm))
Hard to tell with frags. I'll put all the pics together and we'll compare. Be right back!

Okay I am back. Here you go:
http://www.dominopads.com/guess.jpg
I used Yvonne's and Rick's Pictures along with pictures from the frag trays.
Based on that I would guess that Rick's is the white star and Yvonne's should grow into a green sinularia.
I have no clue about leather corals though! I am going strictly on shape, polyp distribution and hue.
Where's Paul28 when you need him?
