I woke up this morning to find that our Condy anemone had crawled inside of our powerhead. All that was left was some piece of the foot going in circles around the inside. That just blew my mind... I did not figure there was any way it could get inside the powerhead.

Well, one of the interesting things is that the Chili Coral, which normally shrinks up and retreats when the lights go on, decided to stay out. I actually saw pieces of the condy tips in its extensions. Then I noticed all the other corals seem to be enjoying themselves as well. Not what I was expecting (I actually though the dead Condy would poison everything).

Anyways, here are some pics of the corals. Aside from 8.4 ph and .5 phosphate, everything else seems OK. Nitrates are undetectable as is amonia and nitrite.

phipp, I cant believe you didnt get any comments on this, that is crazy that it didnt nuke the tank, I have heard the same horror stories about anemones and powerheads. What type of powerhead was it?

On another note, your tank is beautiful, I dont think I have ever seen your photos before, very nice stuff.

Koralia 4. I will likely be moving to a Vortech later this summer, but no more anemones for me... at least for a while. My only guess is that it is a 180G tank. Perhaps sponges help filter too? I was just amazed... I was worried about my tank getting nuked but what I found were all the corals out filtering and eating.

Interesting. I have heard of anemones nuking a tank many of times. Maybe condis aren't that toxic???

Nice tank....I would love to see a FTS.

i think rob is onto something. i know that within an hour of grinding up a ritteri in my old 240, all but three fish were dead and half of the corals went over the next two weeks. i dont think condis have a very strong sting - it is the nematocysts that wreak havok on fish in a short time.

I guess that would make sense. Clowns are less likely to host with them as well. The condy was fairly large. Not in my wildest dreams did I think it could get pulled into a powerhead. I feel extremely lucky right now!

Nice pics Jerod, thanks for sharing. Looks like a condi would be a good starter anemone until I figure out the flow of the tank and likely places for anemones to set up camp.

How many times did he shift around in you set up?

Are condis the ones that eat fish? That might explain it being less popular as well... ;)

Not sure, but I've heard carpets do. I like my sabae because he doesn't cruise around. Mine just dug into the sand in a corner and stays put - that's a good thing.

He settled in a spot about 6" from where I placed him and stayed there for a couple of week. The only time he moved (that I know of) is when he wound up in the powerhead.
