I picked up two erectus yesterday evening for my belated birthday present from the family. Both are females (at least until I can convince my wife to put up with the grow-out tanks that breeding them would require). I've only got good pics of the one right now. The other's being camera-shy, hiding in the caulerpa.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. It's amazing how great of a job they do with the camo!

So teh color on it's back that looks just like coralline... is that how the seahorse can adjust it's own coloration?

Karin, I'm actually pretty sure that it's an attractively-placed stripe of cyano, believe it or not. From what I've read, it's not uncommon for seahorses to grow a little algae on them because they move so slowly. Kinda like tree sloths, only in saltwater... :shades:

The ability of an individual seahorse depends on what kind of chromatophores it has. I don't THINK these two can do red, but we'll see. I can't wait to find out what kind of color changes these two go through!

lol That's gonna be me in a few months.
I'm waiting for my 100 gallon to mature so I can move my coral over.
Then my 29 gallon will be seahorse ready.
