I started to add my first fish and cleaning crew. Since this is my first saltwater i wanted to start slow and simple. I first added a turbo snail and a blue damsel. Also i bought a sand shifting star fish. But after doing some post research it seems they need alot more space than what I have but i bought him at about an inch in size. So he should be fine until he gets big.

I built the Canopy out of an old coffee table that finally broke. Equipped it with fans and hangers for the lights. Bought some glossy black paint that i personally think doesn't match well with the stand... seems to shiny for me. Im really satisfied with it especially since i only used a jigsaw and sander in my apartment. Some minor defects but i can live with them for now.

Yall have any suggestions for fish or inverts? Trying to keep it a FOWLR until tank matures more then move it to a coral tank.

sounds like you are off to a good start. the only issue you may have, is one that you already touched on - the sand sifting star. they can decimate the population of critters in your sand, causing poor development of a functional sand bed and eventual starvation of the star when it runs out of food. even tho this one is small, that may happen.

I keep saying I will do only damsels if I went back to FOWLR. Lots of color and activity to watch. Give it a shot so I can decide if that's what I really want :D Small gobies are really nice too.

For inverts, a shrimp or two is always nice. There's a couple MAAST sponsors that have truly unbeatable prices on Blood Shrimp during sales. Keep a look out.

Shrimp are really nice. I like how they come out and hop onto your hand when you stick it in the tank.
