archived posts and pics

I was a charter member previously on MAAST, will become one again in the near future, and when I searched for my previous posts by user name they do not show up. I recently signed on again with MAAST with the same user name as before and was wondering if that had something to do with it. I was able to find the previous posts by searching keep words or topic though. The only thing is that the pictures that were attached are no longer there. I can imagine that storring all this info would require a lot of backup and some serious servers so older items that take up a lot of room would be cleaned up and deleted. I just wanted to find out. Thanks!

Welcome back, by the way. I can tell by the posts you've written already that you're going to be an asset to have around!

I don't remember any of the details, but there was something within the past year or so where we had to lose user names / profiles of non-active members who had not logged in or posted in x number of months. Hopefully someone with a clearer memory can chime in, but I suspect that influenced your search results.

As for the pictures, they are generally just links to another site that is storing them, right? So it would depend on the photo being stored in photobucket or whatever server it is in, I would presume. Maybe someone more tech-savvy who is laughing at my explanation right now will set us both straight!

I think the pics are removed after like a year or something because they take up band width even if they are linked from a 3rd party site. I really have no idea but that sounds good.

Users that were inactive for a period of 2 or more years were removed some time last year.
I would guess Justahobby's explaination on the pictures would be most acurate.

yes jesse, if your profile was deleted, the pictures you had uploaded to this site (not the ones on other sites that were just linked here) were erased. if it was before the software changeover to vbulletin, even if your profile was intact, the galleries and attached pics were dumped in the switchover. i dont remember if that was intentional or just a result of moving the database.
