Unless you're hellbent on downgrading, I wouldn't make the trade either -- what size BioCube is being offered? A relatively established 29g BioCube might not be so unreasonable..

What comes with the biocube? What size biocube?
Here's a couple of good questions to ask...
How much would you honestly be able to get for your tank setup? (Not what you think it's worth.)
How much can the biocube person get for their tank? (Not what they think it's worth)
If the numbers match then you'll have your answer.
Welcome to MAAST.

If you sell it, one of the site sponsors (I believe River City Aquatics) in Austin is offering a BioCube with stand for cheap... new, in a couple weeks... here's the thread:

$315 for a BioCube 29 with stand, brand new out the door... Hard to beat that :)

If its a biocube 29g with the matching stand they can sale for $150-$175 easy used. If its the tank without the stand $100-125ish if in good shape.
Ive also bought a 55g with canopy and stand in the past for $125.
(so many people sale 55g tanks and expect to get $500, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN)
So really it comes down to if you think its a good deal go for it, if not dont do it.
I have a 29g biocube and love its simplicity and ease of care, Ive had aquariums up to 200gs and loved their size and complexity.
All a mater of opinion, Good Luck

$315 new with a stand- great price.
Think of it this way. New bulbs, fans and ballast as well.
No worries and you have a reciept with warranty.

Based on my own experience and from what I've both seen and sold I don't think you will get more than $200 for the entire setup. The first problem is it's a 55g long...that's the hardest one to re-sell because it's so common...walk into any walmart or target and you'll find one. It's easy to sell if you price it cheap though because it's affordable.
The second problem is it's not really a complete setup for saltwater...the filter most would only use for fresh and the light is more of a fuge light or for a smaller tank. So the setup is not really complete.
That's of course my opinion but I spend a lot of time on here and Craigslist so I think I have a good foundation for coming to that number.
For example I recently sold a complete setup for $300 and it was a 75g, stand, tank, canopy, 6 bulb T5 light setup with new tech 2 reflectors, live rock, powerheads and it still took over 2 months to sell.
Normal re-sell on here and CL is half what you paid for if it's still in great condition....if not it's less.
Again, this is just my opinion and I wouldn't expect you to take it word for word but hopefully it will help a bit. Good luck, hope to see you around here more. We have a lot to offer.

yeah but u cant buy live rock at targer or wal mart.
true...but you can buy it on here for $2 a pound. How much live rock is that? 50 pounds?
You could always sell the liverock separately...
Just trying to help...do what you feel is best.

Unfortunately man these are the times we live in.
People aren't buying, they are selling.
I would sell your tank stand and canopy and get a 75. There is more room from the front glass to the back glass and you could keep your lights.
If this is your first tank, you want to go as large as you can afford.

you could go with a 40 gallon breeder instead - smaller than a 55 but nice depth front to back....

I agree with the other $200 is a fair asking price. 55g is best known as the beginner "big" tank. Very common not going to get much for it even with everything included. I think almost everyone had a 55g at one time, only to find out they really are not that practical and not wide enough. Those of us who have been in the aquarium hobby a while (myself over 10yrs) know what things are worth. Really only worth what someone is willing to pay. To get top dollar your best bet is selling outside of a club because we have sold and bought a lot and going with craigslist where the people on there may think its a good deal and not know as much.
Id say start at $350 Or best offer on craigslist and see what happens. Good Luck

Theres a couple listed on Craigslist right now, but honestly, you'll probably be best served just buying one new from RCA in Austin, when they run their sale:
http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/for/1482482152.html
http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/hsh/1490529488.html
...you could almost get a complete Nanotuners kit (tank, modified hood and all) for their asking prices.

This.
No one is going to pay close to new prices, or they might as well buy new and get warranties and peace of mind. Probably a bad time of year to try to get top dollar for anything, with Xmas coming soon. I would suggest selling yours in pieces and just take your time and keep a lookout on here and CL. It might take a month or two, but I think you'll find something you like for a much cheaper price than those out there now. Or, go with a new one from one of our Sponsor's.
