Ok, so I was looking for some merch on the RC forum. Low and behold I can't even view their sale or trade forums. What is the big beef with having so many posts before having access to things like that? I don't really understand who or what it's hurting. I see how some people use it as a portal for consistent sales and don't benefit to the knowledge side, but if you a paid member than what difference does it make. Besides, those people only account to maybe 10% of the posters. I think people benefit more from it than anything. It allows us to have options to purchase items at fractions of their original cost. There has to be a logical reason for this. Please someone tell me. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.:hypnotyized:

Just a guess: if someone intended to sell big priced items the cost of membership wouldn't amount to enough to stop those only interested in selling. I think it would also help weed out people intending to sell bad (broken, unusuable) items as well.

Not saying I am for or against, just putting myself in their shoes.

Most of it is to keep this site an educational resource and not ebay or craigslist.

I hear yall on that. I'm all about edgamacating. lol! I also don't mind a deal either though. I just didn't realize there are so many people out to make a buck on sites like this. I figured a couple people hear and there but not enough to be a nuisance. I assumed wrong. My bad.

Another argument is that the people just here to sell stuff (or any other site for that matter) are competing against the sponsors. Or should be sponsors and just not admitting it so they don't pay the sponsorship dues.

There's been many heated debates here about the For Sale Forums in the past.

Not saying I am for or against,

No it is very true and it is why we as an org have whittled our by laws down to what works and what doesn't. At this point, I personally feel that the site is definitely going in the right direction. Everyone is dedicated, and we discuss things, even at a moderator level. I am personally amazed and pleased to be a part of things here again. This site has grown ten fold every year it seems. Still though, Sherri is the best, and the most unsung hero to this org. Everytime I see her post it makes me smile. :)

It's quite a surprise to find out what lies underneath the rug. I personally don't have a problem posting to educate or give my opinion, at least on this site. Like I said, I was just lurking around on a few other sites trying to snag a deal and was denied, kind of got irritated a little...that all. I have only met one person that used to be on this site that sells merch like a corner street crack dealer but now he is gone....from what I heard. This site has definitely grown and is headed in the right direction. I always find helpful tips to help me grow and find my way as a reefer. Thanks MAAST and all who make this happen yall are awesome! :)

I love MAAST! Almost as addicting as the hobby itself. I understand what everyone is saying about not wanting the site to become a living yardsale, but there are a lot of us that are trying be involved in this hobby/addiction without ending up in bancruptcy or divorce court. Honestly, when I became a charter member I was expecting to see some great stuff in the charter memeber for sale...was really sad to see that site is hardly ever used. I like buying things from members...gives you a chance to meet other reefers and most livestock has been in the tank for a long time, so I feel like I'm getting a good, healty fish (i know that isn't always the case). I would like to see the sponsors post specials in the charter member for sale/trade. Just an idea. I'm glad to be a MAAST charter member...but was disappointed when the golden gates of hidden seceret deals was not revealed. Have met some great people thought and learned A LOT. Thanks for everything!!!
