Ok, just got home and I thought my heteractis magnifica was acting strange. It has been looking funky for 2 weeks...probably on its way out, but it hasn't died. It traveled to the back of tank. Anyway, there are 2 parts the the anemone now - Literally- it's torn in half. The pics below are the seperate parts. It does not look good:confused:

Search gavage feeding on rc as a last resort. Good thread about trying to bring them back. I'm sure you have checked levels, flow and lighting huh? Maybe minh will chime in as he is pretty good with these from what I've read.

I'm not sure they have a mouth. I can't see them very well. Nothing has changed in the tank. Sorry for the bad pics, can't find the camera.

Here's hoping it just split and is healthy and happy!

It looks like it split. It's common for it to look nasty for a week or two.

It does look nasty.. the clowns are taking turns with each one. Should I turn the koralia's off? One is firmly attached to the rock, but the other is attached only at some points.

I would just let it be! :) If it was just a split it will be fine!

I'm with Eve here -- at least allow a few days to get a good glimpse of whats going on, as well as some time to settle... it could be as simple as 'you're doing such a good job, you should feed me x2!"

I am letting it be. One of them looks like a tiny bit better. The other looks not so hot. I would like to think I am sooooo goood that it actually split, truthfully, I'm not that good.

From the picture, they both look OK for anemones that just split. I hope thy both do well for you. They do split sometime due to trauma or stress, but other time they split when they are doing well also.
Good luck.

One of the anemones has melted away. The other is still hanging on - not much difference. It is still firmly attached to the rock. I'm just waiting.....

Did you see any curly white spaghetti like strings coming from the mouths? If so, not good, its usualy a sign of its oncoming demise.

What happened? I though it was doing great. I am sorry that I did not do well.

Hoping for the best for the remaining anemone.

One of the anemones withered away barely hanging on until it was totally deflated sweeping the sand and falling apart. There was nothing hanging from the mouth . It was more like it was torn apart at the mouth. The anemone part that is hanging on, is attached tightly, not deflated, but the tentacles are short - nothing like when I first got it-but I cannot detect a fully formed mouth and does not seem to be deteriorating.
