Well, as most of you know, I had an accident at work but not covered be WC. After being basically forced to go back to work to keep my job, there has developed some severe complications. As most know I am diabetic and there lies part of the problems. I developed a severe infection and there is internal knee damage not yet determined. We are awaiting MRI results to determine if surgery is needed. The infection is bad and the Doctor has even discussed with me the possibility, though slight, of removal of part of my leg.

Please, if this doesn't offend you, Pray for me and my family. It is hard on us because of me being in Dallas and not in SA and Cheri with a new job.

Thanks so much for my MAAST Friends and I will keep you updated as things develope.

Respectfully,

txav8r

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Steve.
Hope things work out, very much doubt it will go as far as you mentioned, but the diabetes is a problem with wound healing as you well know.

My Prayers are with you Steve...you stay TOUGH and do what the Dr's order you to do. Don't worry about MAAST....please - just take care of yourself and get that infection healed. Diabetes is not something you mess around with. If Cheri needs anything - I'm a phone call away.

Thanks to all who have stayed in contact with Steve or myself.......it really is great to have such true friends. It is a very disheartening that I am unable to be with him during this time of need. It really means a lot to me, for all of those who have called, or even visited Steve during this time, and keeping his spirits up.

Thanks again!

Well, some good news...no surgery. I have a crack on the top of my Tibia in the knee joint and a torn quadracep muscle. The tear in the quad has bled into the muscle causing the internal infection and the laceration infection below my knee. I am on "Gamma Radiation" type antibiotics...lol...not really, but they are real strong. Strong enough to make the "big boy" nausious(sp). I will be off my feet until Friday, then limited walking for about another week. . This is good news and a relief.

Thanks for all the prayers...

No, no. I say what I mean. Now spelling on the other hand... I stink at spelling.

Thank you Jim!

Glad to see that you are getting better Steve. You'll be providing again in no time! And since it was mentioned, I did not mean any ill will by my comment. I understand your frustration. My father was injured in a similar fashion.

Steve, wishing you a fast recovery. With that tibia fracture you need to stay off of it. Thats the only way it's going to heal. Tibia fractures that are hight on the bone heal better than lower ones. Do we need to take a collection up to get you a scooter from the scooter store? He He

I would like to say Thanks to my MAAST Family for the lovely flower/plant arrangement. In this lonely hospital room, it was a welcome site. Thanks so much...

We wanted to send a selection of macroalgae, but we were worried about you making too many requests to empty a bedpan and for repeatedly requesting multiple saline IV bags.

Of course, an IV would make a GREAT acclamation drip!

Thanks for the well wishes. I finally got home from Dallas today. Had a meeting with an Orthopedic Surgeon and not the best of news. I could be off my leg from 10 days to 6 months, depending on how fast the infection disipates. This will determine how fast the Tibial crack and the Quadracep tear heals. The Quad tear is pretty extreme but for now they are not anticipating surgery. Something that I don't understand is that both sides of my leg are hard as a rock, not soft and mushy. I have a large pocket of fluid to the side under my kneecap. I would post pictures but, again this is a family site.

I actually had to drive back because of my truck being there. There was no comfortable way to put my leg. I tried everything up to hanging it out the window. I was the most excruciating drive I have ever made. If you have any medical knowledge, I was and am just short of having "compartment syndrome". Time will tell...

Compartment syndrome: https://health.google.com/health/ref...tment+syndrome (https://health.google.com/health/ref/Compartment+syndrome)

I have a lot of the symptoms.

Well had Dr visit yesterday. The worry is about the internal damage and the development of blood clots. The infection seems to be under control but this being a crushing injury and the depth of the damage to the muscles creates the clotting problem. They now have me on coumadin to thin my blood to help prevent the clots. As the swelling goes down, we see other damage but hope for the best. Please continue the prayers and thank you so much...
