I bought Reefer Man's 125g.... it had LR and was established for a while. It's up & running with 2 250 watt 20K MH.

1. Suggestions for a test kit to check water chem?

2. Suggestions for starting critters? Can I start with some corals? Inverts? A few fish?

I am using Salifert on all my test kits. You can add all that at slow pace of course, once your water parameters are fine.

Any test kit is fine salifert is the most expensive but the most accurate according to some. As far as testing start with cheap corals and fish to try, then you can get more expensive. Usually I pre-plan what fish I want and place least aggressive fish in first and go more aggressive fish.
