I'm certainly not a canon expert, but any macro lens will be darn good to great(closer to great really). You just need to decide how much you want to spend and if you want to shoot bugs. (Bugs will require a bit more working distance to keep from scaring them off so a 60mm macro will put you right in the bugs face whereas a 100-180 will give you a good foot or so of working room.) This will apply to corals also, but they generally don't flee.

All that said, the 100mm range seems to be the most popular. All three 3rd party makers(Sigma/Tamron/Tokina) have good ones and canon's is no slouch either.

100mm macro hands down the best lens for aquatic photography.

I have the Cannon EOS Rebel XTi and I use the Cannon EF 100mm 1:2.8 macro lens. It takes great close up shots. I can get clear and detailed photos of my SPS corals. You do need to use a tripod or something to steady your camera when using a macro lens.

Keep an eye on Craigslist and Ebay for a clean used one. You can save some money that way. Also the local camera shops.

Although Nikon gear tends to be more expensive, a Nikkor 105mm/2.8 runs ~$900 new.

Looks like the Canon version is a bit cheaper. Lucky you.

did you notice the "BACK ORDER" sign

Yeah, photography is as/if not more expensive as reefing.

Didn't notice the back order part. I checked Precision here in Austin and it's listed as back ordered too.

The Sigma 105 and the Tamron 90 are not too much cheaper than the Canon lens. Seriously consider them. Check photo on the net(it's a Canon photo forum) for reviews. Their Nikon versions get rave reviews and I wouldn't expect any difference for the Canon version. Of course the lack of real price difference may come into play.

Check out B&H Photo, Adorama, or J&R for online stores. They are legit.
