Melinda and I are putting together a kayak trip to the Lydia Ann Lighthouse on Sunday morning, July 26th. We will be going out at 8 AM and should be back by 11 AM. This is a very easy paddle (about four miles in total) that is beginner friendly. If you do not have a kayak and would like to join our group, there is an outfitter that will rent a package (kayak, paddle, life vest, leach, water and map) for $50.00 dollars. If you want to use this option, then I will need to get a deposit of $30.00 dollars per person. You can send a PayPal payment to treasurer@maast.org and put in the notes field that it is for the kayak trip.
The lighthouse is privately owned and we will NOT be able to go inside. However, there is lots of wildlife to see including porpoises, birds and such so you might want to bring a camera and/or binoculars.
We will also be there with our kayaks all weekend. Anyone that wants to join us and go out in the flats on Friday or Saturday are more than welcome to join us.
If you have any questions about kayaking that weekend, please feel free to call me on my cell phone at five one two, six eight zero, six six four seven.

If you are planning on attending the Sunday morning trip, please post to this thread.
If you plan on renting a kayak, please put that in your post as well so I can reserve you a kayak.

Cheri,
That is four miles total. Two miles out and two miles back. We will also be taking a break at the light house.
Anything under five miles that is supported by experienced kayak leaders is considered "Beginner Friendly".
And yes we will have leaches to help tow anyone back that cannot make it.

How much stowable space is there on a Kyack for camera gear? How long will the stop be?

We will stop for as long as we want. Probably around 30 minutes or so. The kayak rentals are Sit-on-top type kayaks. What I usually do is take a dry box that will hold all of my camera gear and put it in the back of the kayak on a leach. Everything in the kayak needs to be on a leach or be able to float in case you are tipped over. That way you won't lose anything. You can also get a waterproof disposable camera (even takes pictures underwater) for this trip as well if you don't want to carry your expensive camera with you.

You might talk to Dean and Jennifer with Slowride guide service. Great people and very much active in the conservation efforts of the bay system down there. He is a fishing guide but also loves the wildlife aspect of the area and conducts various tours of the Lighthouse Lakes area.
He will deliver and pick the kayaks back up at the launch spot there.
I have to add that they are part responsible for some of the public kayak launch spots down there.
LOL! I know more about Kayaking than I do about these salt tanks! This is a great idea, can't go because of work but I will tag along on this thread. :)

But anyone is free to go with whomever they want to choose. I just need to know who needs a kayak so I can get one reserved for them.

The kayak outfitters will drop off the kayaks at the put in point and will pick up the kayaks after we get back. All you have to do is show up at put in point. I just need to know the number of kayaks to reserve.
We have room for two people in our Jeep if anyone wants to ride with us to the put in point.

I have two extra Ocean Kayak scramblers with paddles and PFD's if any charter member wants to borrow them. I don't care you uses them, but would prefer a charter member to pick them up just so I know who has them. I live about 15 or so minutes from the light house trails.

Princer7, I have another group that will be joining us. One of the members has three kayaks in addition to his own. He has graciously agreed to bring them along and rent them out to anyone that needs one. He is only charging $35.00 dollars for the kayak and all of the gear you will need. He will be bringing them on a trailer so all you need to do is ride with either the Steve and Cheryl or with us. Let me know if you want me to have him reserve a kayak for you.
