canopy help

i would like to mount my canopy to the wall instead of setting it on the tank. what would my options be? the canopy weighs about 40 pounds.

You could rig some drawer slides verticly somehow and make some kind of holding mechanism...

You can tap into a stud and use all-thread.

could you explain a little further on the all-thread?

In commercial construction we have a rod that is threaded over the entire length of the rod. There are inserts that are drilled into the stud, then when you screw the rod into it it expands and locks the rod in place. You then can screw heavy objects onto the rod with nuts and washers

Home depot in the hardware section. I have some all-thread at my house, you just need the inserts, nuts and washers.

I have a 4' drill bit if you need to borrow it yes I said 4 foot....lol

i think the rod thread is the best you just have to find the studs and hope they are in the same location were you want the canopy if not you will have to move the tank to line it all up. but for the wieght i think that is the best option IMO

I mounted a board flat against the wall using long screws into the studs. Then I attached the canopy to that board using a piano hinge.

The ballasts are mounted on the board against the wall.

I can raise it enough to feed and reach into the front of the tank for something, but I have to stand on a ladder to raise it all the way up.
