I have my tank up and running now. I just got done putting in my sand, which I have had fermenting in a bucket sw for the past month. Let me tell you.... Anyone ever play "whats grosser than gross" as a kid? The smell of this stuff would walk away the winner! I had to stop a couple times just to dry heave. Where is Mike Rowe when you need him?

For what its worth. Rotten egg smell = lack of O2. It cycles back to an aerobic state fairly quick.

I think they seriously need to do a Dirty Jobs on reef aquariums. Mike Rowe can clean out skimmers, dead critters and scoop rotting sand.

you want to hear something bad...

i broke down my 90 gallon tank late last year and put the contents of my refugium into a bucket of saltwater. i moved, and brought the aquarium stuff with me and left the bucket out on my patio for about four months before i noticed that i left it there. when i opened it up after it had been sitting in the texas summer heat for a while i dropped to my knees and almost cried. it nearly burned!!!

well it doesnt hurt, hurt....but you will know about it......similar to an asp i guess if i had to compare it to something, but not as bad........basically........when i have been hit, it feels like fiberglass would if you got that in your skin.....it itches, made the skin on my fngrs tight, small pain came and went first day or so, kind of like a bunch of needles poking you, ......trust me though.....not as bad as many of the things that are out there....and now thinking about it, it is not so bad, the first time i thought i was invincible and decided to pick one up about 4 inches or so (that was stupid, ill openly admit that, and i wont ever do it again) and it got me good.....fingers were rough for at least a month.......
