I have a question that i just thought of, im running a mag 24 as my return pump. it Y's off to supply both sides of my tank since i have two over flow boxes. being that my the top of my tank is six feet above finished floor ive cut my gph down to 1700 gph per mag specs. however my question is do i cut that in half again since im splitting the flow? if yes than shouldnt i be able to increase my return pump for a greater gph? im not saying that i need to as this setup has been running for a year and a half, but if i wanted more flow and not more unsightly koralina power heads i could just upgrade my return pump. btw i do like the power heads but they arent the most attractive thing in my tank ;)

the "y" itself will reduce the flow a little, but two outlets will not make your head height double. it it generally recommended that you only run about 5-10X turnover per hour thru your sump and use other means to obtain in tank flow. i only run a single mag 18 return pump on my 240. that being said, if it is working well now, why change it?

i dont really want to change it but i got one of my a.d.d o.c.d itches and i was just curious. it is running well and i have no complaints but for some reason i was thinking the fact that i split the line that now i double the amount of height in my return line

Agree with ace, sounds like you should just leave it alone. i've got a calfo overflow with 2 returns, but still i have a mag 18 and its more than what i need
