I picked this piece up down the street about at month ago. I boiled the tar out of it, and sun bleached it for 3 weeks.

Should look good once the algae takes it over.

Definitely have some good surfaces to mount some corals. :)

What is the coral on your sandbed on the left (2nd pic)? Did you pick that up from Cherry Corals at TMAC?

I would still be leary about putting something like that in a tank regardless of how much you boiled it. Our water has lots of metals and run-off from rain into the bays around here and is obsorbed into everything.

We have lots of oil and muck along with whatever people dump into the storm drains and runs off into the bays here. Good luck.

I sprayed it off with brake cleaner first, so that should have taken care of all the muck. J/K. I was leary about adding it to the tank, but what the heck, We shall see.

The coral in the sand is a Favia from Aquarium Masters.

lol, it was just a figure of speech. There was no "tar" on it. I was sun bleached and white when I found it, and then boiled the "heck" out of it for 4 hours on the back porch. Left it in the sun for 3 more weeks.

Geez, glad I didn't mention that I keep live bait shrimp in the refugium. lol

Those iysetr shell as not as pourous as LR, so they may not e as hard to clean off. I think you'll be fine if it was out as long as you said.

Well, living near you I see this alot in tanks down here, most have been fish only tanks, and i have neer seen any issues but in one tank (Fish only tank and the fish had Amyloo from either tagging along on the oysters or water) I think as long as you clean the heck out of it ans are comfortable placing it into tank, then go for it.......but there are some nasty things (Amyloodinum sp., Vibrio sp., parastic isopods, etc.) in our local water harmful to tank inhabitants. A good log soak in bleach water and the sun would probably do it....good luck......i wouldnt put it in my tank though...

I have used barnacles that I find at the coast every time there is a big storm. The stroms wash them in. Anyways I have never seen any ill effects from using them and they add a super cool and natural look to any reef.

As mentioned above they aren't pourous so they are easy to clean.
