After all the water changes and carbon change last week due to bad Alk/Cal readings it looks like my hippo and powder brown have "Ich". my corals are still looking bad. i'm not sure whats going on. 65gal mixed reef 30gal sump/wet/dry filter along with 2 36" T5 96watt lighting. The parameters are - sal 1.023/niti 0/nita 0/ph 8.4/alk 4/ and my cal is still reading a bit high 630/ my new skimmer won at TMAC the redsea c1200deluxe the bubble maker pump burnt out. just not having any fun. any ideas on the next step?

Feed your tanks well and regularly. Give them plenty of greens. Ours like romaine as well as nori. Remove stress from their environment, and keep them fat & happy, and it should work itself out. If you have dying corals, might want to run some carbon.

Soaking the food in garlic has helped me in the past. Those fish are pretty delicate and will more thank likely take a while before you can get rid of the ich. The ideal thing to do would be to setup a quarantine tank with medication. I wouldnt add any medication to the display. Ich without a host after a couple of weeks will die off. There are also some stages in the life cycle of ich where the medicine simply wont do anything, especially in the larvae stage and the earlier stages. If you dont want to use any medication, you can also try hyposalinity in a seperate tank

My sailfin and purple made it through a bout of ich recently. As long as they were eating well I wasn't worried. I had a quarantine set up just in case but didn't need it. Also remember that it will more than likely appear again after you think you have it beat as it is just in a different stage of it's life cycle. I have a very similar setup to yours so I thought I would chime in with my recent events.

thanks guys, i've set up a 20gal quarantine tank if feeding hasn't helped, but this morning things are looking promising. i really wasn't worried to much about the ich. but still worried about coral. my cal is still high and my green slimmer staghorn still looks as its gone.

Justin, I really don't think you have enough light for the slimer to grow.

Cross your fingers. They can really, really look bad and still recover.

What kinda lights do you have? I am a little confused you said 2 96w t5's? And you added a coralife strip? what kinda lights are they? O and did you mean 39 watt? I am not aware they sell t5's at 96 watts?

No carbon in the QT tank - that will take out the meds.
