what other fish do you have in your tank? what type of damsel is it? How long has it been in the tank?

I guess it depends on what your going to have in your tank. The coral will tell you how much flow. As for the damsel, my blue devil was missing in action for the first week, now he cruzes about the tank.

The fun thing about this hobby is that you can do anything you want, so long as the animals agree.

i had 2 damsels in my 12g but soon found out how aggressive they can be, i added a clown and a flame tail and they where very aggressive, the clown could hold his own but my flame tail would come to eat and they would attack, so i gave them to a buddy with a bigger tank, and now i see alot more of the flame tail.

you definitely don't have too much flow in your tank. in fact, i would say that you don't have enough if you want to keep sps. Get yourself one of these http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~category~Maxi_Jet_1200_Powerhead___MP_ 1200_+_Algae_Free_Sure_Flow_1600_Maxi_Jet_Upgrade_ Kit_w__Upgrade_Kit~vendor~ASI_or_Aquarium_Systems~ SearchStr~maxijet+mod+sureflow+1600~action~view~id Product~AS1147~idCategory~FIPHFFUK.html for your mj1200 and you should be good to go.

I put a rio 1700 in my 24G and it works great. You just have to get creative with the flow and adjust it around until it is just right. I also didn't see an increase in temps with the addition of the bigger pump.

i have two nano power heads in my 14g biocube, flow really depends on the coral you have and how your rock is set up. just watch your tank a lot and you will find what works best
