I have been thinking about lighting options and came across several threads on using natural sunlight. I have seen some of the threads talking about skylights called SolaTubes. The people who used them say they have great results. They seem to be older threads, but the equipment is still available. Does anyone know much about them?

Yeah, Ace (hobogato) has a very detailed thread on here and RC. Lot's of pics taken at different times of day for comparison. One of the best threads I've seen here.

It's not for everyone, but it's definitely an option if you have the time, know-how, $$$, and loving wife who's willing to let you steal a closet to run the tubes through.

I think you can buy them for $300 online. Homedepot has some knockoffs for $150 (not sure how comparable they are). I'm thinking you could use 2 in a 48" tank which if you can DIY saves a lot of money really fast. Sent a PM to hobogato for more information.

already sent him a reply, but to add to it....

my three 14" kits with 16' of tube each (had to go all the way thru the 2nd story) cost a total of $1300 shipped and it took mike and me about 4 hours to install.
