Looking for clownfish eggs....

I am in Port Aransas and am looking for someone locally (in CC area/rockport area) that may have a breeding pair of clowns right now and doesnt have interest or capabilities in rearing them...., species doesnt matter, just looking for eggs until one of my pairs begins to spawn. If have extensive experience rearing larval fish (1st time with clowns, but i have no fear) and am rotifer/artemia ready.....please let me know if you might be able to help....

Not that I want to take your thunder away from propagation however, it would be really great if you were to share the process and equipment for which you raise saltwater fish ie clowns. I think it would really help conserve natural resources. :)

The process and equipment are not hard for rearing clownfish. It is the time it takes to do so. I did it a few times with success and simply felt overwhelmed so I gave up and moved on.

I can ferry eggs to CC on Fridays.

I also have a pair of layers, but right now with the tank in flux, they are having a bit harder time.

i grow fish....that is what I do....and yes it is time consuming....and can be labor intensive.....but it is all just routine for me at this point...like I said...this will be my first time with clownfish...but have reared thousands of other larval fish ....so really not concerned about the rearing part, i just need some eggs or my fish to start spawning....

and about shuttling eggs from SA..i appreciate the gesture, but it is going to be difficult, not saying it cant be done.......looking to acquire eggs on hatch day, several hrs before hatch,..... so getting the fish (in SA) to cooperate and spawn so that the hatch day is on fridays, then great...lets do it....who has that pair though?....i want them!.....idk....PM and maybe we cana figure something out.....i cold take eggs sooner, just not the way i wanted to go about it

That was an old nest. The current nest is bigger and it will hatch next Wednesday. The eighth day every time for me so far.
You can even load 5-10 g of my tank water so that the chemistry won't change for the eggs. Just let me know ahead of time so I can mix water to change.

the rotifers are cultivated and appropriate amounts will be pulled daily from standing stock, and then enriched with a ALgamac 2000 for 16-24 hr before feeding....to make more nutritious

Do you care to share the process of cultativing rotifers. I have tried serval time and fail. To the point that I want to give up. But I would like a solid ingredient or a tutor so I may try once more, before completely giving up.

thx

pm me....tell me how you are doing it...and what water parameters are, feed, etc......species of rotifer, initial culture size....and i'll see how or if i can help ya....

....a microscope helps so you can observe them for eggs, get counts, and see if they are feeding/moving around well. Also,

I can't really imagine keeping a standing stock going without one....while they are tough, they do have salinity and temperature ranges and cultures will easily crash if these parameters are met and maintained.....

First of all, thank OrionN......This is a picture of eggs I acquired OrionN on Tuesday this weed 4/14. The fish spawned 7 days prior in one of his very nice tanks. I picture of the parents can be seen on page 2 of this post. The picture was taken yesterday afternoon (8th day from spawn).

Awesome pic how were u able to transport the eggs? Are they still in the rock that was the original tank? What other livestock if any were in the tank??? I heard they have to be alone to nest?

OrionN
Fri, 17th Apr 2009, 06:05 AM
May be you have a higher resolution picture. I printed it out and mark them out as I count. I got about 400. And no, I did not count each eye as 1 fish:-)

I just took a visual guess. I wasnt about to physically count. lol

Texreefer
Fri, 17th Apr 2009, 10:16 AM
Just a suggestion if I may,, try not to use that flash the day they hatch or the day before.. it can delay the hatch date and even cause some not to hatch.
How many have hatched?. also I didn't see the details of transportation, make sure they are NEVER removed from the water as this can damage them and reduce hatch rate, also during trasportation the must stay areated, even if it is a spoon gently swirling the water around them. good luck

well, the flash i'll keep in mind for next time,...i will post an update on a new thread soon....for the first time doing it it went reasonably well, with plenty of room to improve.....I had a poor hatch, chalk it up to being the first time, just a poor hatch, too little aeration, flash of light, etc....all variables to consider.......but there are babies!!! and thats a start....thanks again orionN....hope to see you soon

TCT,
No money needed. I will mix water ahead of time, 20 g and I just change water when you pick up the egg. Let's shoot for next weekend if I see the the eggs on Monday.
