View Full Version : Bubbles in water?

So I've noticed that my water isn't as clear as it used to be. I wouldn't call it cloudy, I'd say I can see millions of tiny bubbles everywhere. I don't know what is causing it. I thought it was the sponge that's on my pump sending it back into the tank. Should I take the sponge off, or do I need to have that on there?
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,

Check for air leaks on your connections on your return.
Also
Do you have a sump?
Run a protein skimmer?
Have anything that drains near the return pump?

Checked for air leaks, none that I could see.
I have a sump.
Yes.
No.

Water level in sump may be too low. My tank does that when water level in sump is too low.

It's not low at all. :\

Hard to tell but there has to be air getting in from somewhere to cause bubbles. Did you put in a bubble trap after your skimmer but before your return pump. Maybe a picture of your sump might help.

There is air getting into your plumping prior to the pump somewhere.

oh. Well the bubble trap is attached to my return. There is another one that is on my skimmer where the water is shot out.

My tank gets like that too. Its caused by too much cavitation in the sump. The air bubbles aren't fully dissipated when the water is pumped back to the tank. I found that putting a filter sock on the drain pipe output in the sump helps a lot.
