i picked up a gbta yesterday soo that my clown will host it and stop digging holes in the sand in my tank. he was rubbing on it a little bit and then stopped. now my damsel is hosting it. will the clow end up throwing him out and taking over or is it just a lost cause?

Not all clowns immediately take to a GBTA. Some will (like mine did), some take a little time, and occasionally some just won't.

I would give it more time and I think the damsel would lose interest. I didn't think a damsel would host in an anemone (or anything). I thought the anemone would be - at the least - unpalatable to the damsel.

How large is the GBTA, clown, and damsel? Is the GBTA much larger than the clown? Is the clown larger than the damsel?

i belive a damsel is a sort of clown. the anemone is about 6", the clown is about 4", and the damsel is about 1"

Actually a clownfish is a damsel. I've read some damsels have been know to host anemone's.

Hm... I apologize for giving bad information.

In that event, you might have to find another home for the damsel unless the clownfish wants it more.

Just wait and see. My first Clown ignored my anemone, allowing a damsel to take over for months, then one day he started moving in and took over. I guess it had to be his idea, not mine.

I have had Domino and 3-striped damsels host a clown before.

I can't believe the clown stayed still for so long so the domino and 3 striped damsel to host in him. How big was the clown.

The clown may still dig in the sand. I know that mine did. Its spawning instincts. They want a clean surface to be by their 'sleeping' area.

At night or during the day? From my experience when they do that in the daytime they are either searching for food or about to poop. My rbta will deflate its bubble tips and waves them around if I don't feed it after a couple of days. After it eats it will tuck back and bubble up again. It also gets shriveled up when its about to poop. At night it extends and deflates its bubble tips while my tomato clown gets cozy in it.

its been about 5 days now, i only got him a week ago, he moved to the top glass under my return in the shade as soon as i got him and hasnt moved. my clown is also hosting him. he doesnt realy look bad like he is going to die, but he doesnt look happy, he is streching out as in he is 2" up and down and about 6" left to right.

I saw the picture in your 28 bowfront thread of the anemone/clown underneath the return just get a credit card and gently peel its foot off and encourage it to move somewhere else. It takes time for them to acclimate to lights and a new home. What size is that powerhead? You may need to play with the direction, it could very well not like your flow. From my experience they do not like alot of turbulant areas but like a gentle back and forth.

how long has the tank been setup? anemones can be tricky and typically dont do well unless the tank is at least 6 months old and very stable. also, the maroon clown is one of the toughest on its host. at 4", that clownfish may be too big for that anemone. typically it is reccommended that the anemone be at least twice as big in diameter as the clown is in length. i would not try to move the anemone if i were you, it will find the spot it likes based on flow and lighting.
