new skimmer

hey guys i just bought a new skimmer. and i was wondering how do i "break it in"? i have never bought a new skimmer out of box before i have always used a used one from my dad. anyways how do i break it in and in what water do i use to break it in??

what brand is it? break in will take some time depend on your skimmer,bioload, pre-adjustment,etc.You use your salt water to break in .Make sure you have it at the lowest setting first and crank it up slowly after that.

breaking it in is really just letting a slime layer build up on the inside of the skimmer. Like aquasport said, how long it will take will depend on your bioload.

In my experience, it usually takes about 3 days to break one in.
