I just got my 300 together; man that was a lot of work. It is cycling as we speak but I did have to put the fish in. I know I risked an ammonia spike but the interim tank I loaded all my fish in hit the roof of ammonia test kit… I lost 2 fish in there so I had to load the new tank early. I have a huge bio load but also it's a huge tank.
My ammonia is settling down I bought some additive that was said to help. I also loaded tank with TLC bacteria from aquarium design. Everyone looks really good and healthy now but I don’t want that to change. The level is between 0.25 and 0.5 but I am thinking it will settle down. I know the best solution should be WATER CHANGE! But that’s a lot of water. I am thinking of waiting it out for a few days. Fish have been in water for 2 days with no spike. Ammonia is even lowering a little. When we moved I kept 150 gal of old water all old sand and the live rock was established for years prior to change and it was only out of water for mins.
Am I naïve to think the ammonia will dissipate with that much live rock?
Nitrate level is 0ppm
Ph is high but good. 8.2?
It is 300 gal tank and a 50 gal sump.
4-500 lbs of live rock in display and 75 lbs in sump.
4 tangs -yellow, purple, Cole and hippo. The yellow tang has settled down a lot, he was pretty aggressive.
2 angel fish
2 fox face 1- 4 inch 1-6 inches
1 coral beauty
5 damsels
1 fuzzy lion
4 gobies
3 sand sifters
3 starfish
5 cleaner shrimp
Mushrooms, zoos and assorted sponges and stuff.
I am sure I am missing some

Nice man! Mixing old sand up is not always a good idea ....if it was only an inch it's probably not a big deal...but if it was 3" or more I'm sure you stirred some nastly toxic crud up. Keep an eye on your parameters.

Sounds like a nice tank! Can't wait for some pics.

I didnt mix sand I left as much as I could and still move it. I have a shallow sand bed. That tank is kinda heavy.

Sounds like a great start. You may want to have some premixed water standing by in case you need it.

I am going to build a hood soon. I bought 3-400 watt MH lights to hang above it. I am using the PC's from My 125 now.

WHHHAAAT!!! I thought I was in the 200 Club. Now I have to get a bigger tank??? Well $#@&%!

Keep an eye on the ammonia - and see how your fish are handling it. The live rock should really help out. You could try one of the ammonia lock products. In a pinch, I have a lot of salt you can borrow.
