I am getting a new tank... OK, the new tank is drilled in the bottom of the tank. How do I keep that system from overflowing in the event of a power loss? I fully understand (now) the gravity fed system stops when the overflow is in the right location height and it stops the water from flowing out of the sump in the event of power failure... What component does this, in a drilled situation?

As soon as the water level in the display drops below the overflow it will stop.

Where are the holes drilled? Are they in a section that has a built in overflow or just out in the open where maybe it was previously used for a closed loop?

Can you post a picture so we can give you more information.

you will have to put standpipes in,,,, if you want overflows you will have to put those in as well. I will try and get some pics up so you will know what i'm talking about

another option for those holes is a closed loop with ball valves

It also depends on where the holes are drilled.. if they are in the corners, you can do this

I had my tank grilled in the corners for returns and overflows, then added standpipes

If it's directly in the center, have ace make you a rectangular box for an island style calfo!
