I have a stock 24 gallon nano tank with 20 pounds of live rock and two shrimp. I guess i'm having trouble controlling my water quality with just monthly water changes. Any suggestions of what to do.

you should be doing 14 day 5 gallon water changes. That is what i did on my 30 and I had a 3 gallon fuge and a 90 gallon rated skimmer in a 4 gallon sump. Also need good flow. I have a koralia 3

I have an 24 gallon AP. I do changes weekly, 2-3 gallons, with RO water. if I skip a few days it does seem to promote more bad algae growth.

I don't water change that much, but i have much larger tank. Might be too much light? tangs can eat green algae.

I had a horrible Hair algea problem in my 12 gallon Nanocube.Started weekly water changes( with RO/DI ) and removed rock and scrubbed with a toothbrush.Took about 1.5 to 2 months but finally got rid of all Hair algea.....for now LOL

I have a 125 gallon with 50 gallon fuge and 30 gallon sump, and I do once a month 25 gallon water changes. Ace recommends 5 gallons a week for a large tank. Size Matters!!!

I have a 29 biocube and I only change 4 gal of water every 3 weeks. But my tank is over 2.5 years old. Your tank will grow more stable as it ages. Of course check your source water for phosphates. Stop feeding your fish so much for a while. I have a Sea hare I am about to put up for sale if you want it. It eats hair.

What other livestock you have?? Can also be over feeding. What about your CUC (cleanupcrew)?

Thanks for the replies. I have 2 snails and a hermit crab. I don't believe I over feed. What is the idealistic amount of time the lights should be on and the type of cleanup crew for a 24 gallon? Could adding more rock do any good?

I have 5 Scarlet Reef Hermits in my DSA Neo Nano and they do a great job. Weekly water changes. You did not mention any corals? Cheap corals like GSP, Kenyan Trees do a great job of filtering the water. Also Candy cane do very well in nanos.

Mostly just have some softies. Mushrooms and such. Does anyone know what the limitations on coral are for a stock nano cube with power compact lighting

WIth stock you can keep softies with some lps, no clams or sps.

Ive currently got some GSP and a HUGE Toadstool in a 12 gallon with 48 watts PC lighting. Most softies do well in this tank.
