strange lumps on tenticles

I have a long tentacle anemone and is has strange lump like growths on its tentacles. They have been there for years, has anyone ever seen it like that before. This is the strangest anemone I have ever had. One day he is small (baseball size) and withered and green looking the next day he is the size of a basketball and beautiful. I found he does not like to be in the direct flow of a power head so I moved the koala (sp) to the middle of the glass to avoid him. But he is a strange cookie. He is so pretty when he is out and open. I wish he was every day. How often do these things split? Isn’t that how they reproduce? All the tests I can do with my water kit are spot on.

What is your SG? is it checked with a hydrometer or refractometer? If tested with a hydrometer, how long have you owned it? Your SG needs to be at 1.025 or 1.026.

What is the temp of your tank?

E. Quadricolors split when ever they are over fed, get too large or when stressed by low quality water. I can't tell you when its going to split just what causes them to split on their own.

As for long tentacle anemones M. Doreensis. They don't split..they only reproduce sexually. No one has ever reported M. Doreensis to reproduce asexually.

What you have looks like a E. Quadricolor with no bubble tips. They tend to lose their bubble or bulb tips in captivity.

I don't know what has caused your anemone to look like that but it might help if you would post your tank parameters.

How long has your tank been established before you added this anemone?

What is your SG? 1.020-23 checked with a hydrometer. I did have it tested by refract- he said it was ok but didn’t tell me exact numbers.
The one I have never has split, I just thought at some day it might, just because it is so big. I don’t think I have ever seen a bigger one in a tank.
What is the temp? 77-78 pretty consistently. Down to 75 at night.
E. Quadricolors? I don’t know what type it is. I got it from another reefer.
This anemone was in his tank for 3 yrs plus.
My tank was up and running 6 months before I added him he has been in there for 3 months now. I feed him frozen table shrimp about 2 a week.
I have a 125 long and I have 4 sets of compact lights. 2 blue 2 white. The parameters last time I checked were 0 nitrates, and the colors of the others were all ideal. I don’t remember numbers.

Do you still have that chocolate chip starfish in there also? Nothing to do with your question, but they will eat your corals.

No problem I have 2 they have been pretty lazy, they have not even touched the aptasia all around.
but i know i have heard that. I want to move those to my small tank at work.

If you water quality is truely good then it may be something else. Does your clownfish suck on the tenticles of your anemone? I have read somewhere that certain clownfish don't host in specific anemones in the wild but will host in captivity (just can't get enough). Because they are not naturally paired, the clownfish will suck the micus of the tenticales to create a resistance to the sting of the anemone. My clownfish do this and it causes the anemone's tenticales to become disfigured but cause no visable damage to the invert. Hope this helps!

I was just thinking I don't know my calcium level. I don't think my test set has a test for that. Might it be high calcium or magnesium? I can test for neither.
