Ok after some discussion with fellow reefers and review of different reviews, I think I've decided on MSX as my skimmer choice for my 180 gallon.

I had it narrowed down to:

MSX 250 - http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/Protein-Skimmers-MSX-Skimmers/c22_48/p133/MSX250/product_info.html?osCsid=eehtd9i71b3tgvr4du60tribb 3

But I've seen a lot of hype concerning Cone skimmers and now I'm confused once again:

I can see they definitely increase the cost of a skimmer, but is the cost worth the benefits from the cone? Does anyone currently run a cone skimmer? How does it compare to your cylinder skimmer you had before?

I guess my ultimate question is related to functionality instead of cosmetic looks. From a functional / efficiency standpoint, does a cone skimmer design outperform a cylinder skimmer in order to pull the higher upfront cost?

I've seen the forums with reduced pressure on pump, reduced turbulence, and as a result, they can use less powerful pumps to gain results, but has anyone completed actual testing with results?
