What is a mated pair? (no jokes please :)

I am looking at getting some clownfish and hear the term mated pair use quite often....First what exactly is a mated pair. 2 how can I make sure they are a mated pair. 3 is it better to get equal sizes or one larger and one medium size (yellow stripe maroon clowns) . 3. Clowns can changes sexs correct????

Pair that has mated. you have to trust the seller. 1 larger than the other is idea. Clowns can change sex
