Damsel Crossbreeding?

Can a Blue Devil Damsel and a Pink Carib. Damsel breed with each other? My blue damsel laid some little redish eggs and does not come out of the cave while the pink pops in and out protecting the cave from two gobies who share the tank. Could the blue have just laid some unfertile eggs and for some natural instinct reason the pink is defensive?

Sure, why not? Sharks of different species have done it. Dog's and cats do it all the time.
