Good post. I love making my own fish food. I made a batch the other day. Instead of the whole cube thing, I just put mine in quart size ziplock bags and smooth them out flat. Freezed them and just break of pieces as you need it. I used fresh shrimp, seafood mix from HEB (clam, oyster, octopus, squid), cyclopeeze, and garlic juice in one batch. Used shrimp and norie in another batch. Blend the ingredients to get the paste. And of course all ingredients are raw. The batch I made the other day cost me about 8 bucks and now I have enough food for probably 4 to 5 months.

that is reallly cool What tyoe of fish would that mixture feed. Most of my fish are really small and I am not sure I can blend the product fine enough for my chromis, clowns and pj cardinals to eat...Has anyone fed these small fish using self made food?

oh, and another newbie question.. Why garlic juice?

and another question...what is the gelatain for? do you place it in the blender with the shrimp?

The stuff I made feeds smaller fish. Especially if you put it all in a blender. I currently have a medium yellow tang, three inch anthias, small six line wrasse, pj cardinal, royal gramma, starry blenny. You would be surprised how big a chunk of food they will get down. But most of the stuff is small anyways. The garlic helps the fish's immune system. Many people think that it helps keep ich at bay, and other diseases. Plus it stimulates the fish's feeding response. That was the first I heard of the gelatin, I imagine it just makes his concoction gelatenous. The whole process is very very easy, and will save you a good bit of money.

is there anything special I should know about blending it to a fine consistancy? How long should it take?
