as some of you know, while in the process of taking my tank in a new direction, crisis struck. the ritteri anemone that i was counting on to be my showpiece took a trip thru my seio 2600 and with it took almost all of my fish and many of my corals.

because of the generosity of many of my friends here at maast, the tank is well on the road to recovery.

i decided to try again with a ritteri, but this time i am being more cautious.

mike had a great idea to make some covers for my seios to keep disaster from striking again.

here is the new covered look of the seio - the vents are only on the front and back large panels
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c329/hobogato/240/DSC03130.jpg
here is what it looks like on the inside - it is completely encloses so nothing should be able to get to the actual pump
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c329/hobogato/240/DSC03131.jpg
here is the new anemone - my clowns jumped in as soon as it hit the water. they didnt even wait for me to get my hand out of the tank

here are a few of the new fish - you can also see some damaged corals in the background - hopefully they will pull thru...

well, the long tentacle anemone i have decided to test my covers to see how well they worked..... of course it was able to find the one cover that had a small gap around the front, but only a little bit of its foot went into the pump. i fixed the small gap and the anemone (along with everything else) seems fine. i have banished it to the clam tank to heal up tho. the ritteri seems to be doing ok - not completely healthy and settled in yet.

thanks to a nice pickup in austin yesterday, my fish list is getting more complete. here is what i have in the tank right now:

Ace,
I'm going to have to politely ask you to STOP posting pictures of your clown fairy wrasse, at least until I can find a nice replacement for ours that jumped months ago. Every time I see photos of yours I get all upset and start to covet. And now you've apparently added a mystery wrasse? You've just gone too far this time, buddy... :)

well, it seems my two spot candy hogfish has learned a lesson from my cleaner wrasse and it is now helping clean the other fish :)

Ace, how big is this tank?

hobogato
Mon, 15th Dec 2008, 01:09 PM
it is a 400 gallon system, with a 240 gallon display and a 50 gallon clam tank - the rest is sump/fuge. all of these fish are in the display, as i will be raising cuttlefish again in the near future in the clam tank.

I had a faulty powerhead electrocute and kill all of my livestock and lost all but 2 corals. It has taken awhile, however, I have restocked my livestock and have added several new corals. I have a foxface, a sailfin tang, two 4 stripe damsels, 2 clown fish, a 6 line wrasse, 5 chromis, a green star fish and my skunk cleaner shrimp. Mostof my corals are softies with a couple of LPS mixed in.

sorry to hear about that, glad you stuck in there and have begun to recover.

well, i broke down and got one more ritteri to try. i also bought six higher par t5 bulbs to replace half of my actinics to make sure the tank gets enough light in the next few months.

beautiful fish. I hope it all works out. Is the marine Beta eating frozen food?

Mon, 15th Dec 2008, 08:04 PM
Ace, what bulbs are you using?

hobogato
Mon, 15th Dec 2008, 08:36 PM
i was running all 580 watts of uri super actinic. i just changed half of the bulbs out to glo brand power-glow bulbs (the box says it is 18K, but it looks more like 10-12K). just needed to increase the par a bit to make sure that anemone is getting enough light.

yes the betta does eat frozen food, but they are fun to watch when hunting small shrimp.
