I just found my 6 line lying in the grate of the second chamber of my BC. He was still alive and when I tipped it up he jumped back into the tank. I don't think he was there too long but I'm not sure. He immediately swam down and hid in his cave. He seems to breathing heavy but he's still alive for now. Is there anything else that I can do for him? Do you guys think that he will make it? I have a barrier along the back to help prevent this but he managed to jump through the 1/4 inch space. Compared to someother peoples loss on here this week this is nothing but I would really hate to lose this little guy.

My six line did the same thing in my biocube. My clown fish ended up in the filter section once too. They did it when I first put them in, but haven't since. My mom said she finds her clown on the grate every other week and he's been doing this for the past 6 months or longer.

I've had my 6-line for about 3 yrs and he has been on the carpet twice and in the overflow at least 3 times, I can think of. Resilient little guy.

He tends to be cautious and hide for a day or 2 after the carpet surfing and maybe only an hour or so after reacclimating from the overflow.

I'd say if you see him eating already, he should be fine.

wrasses are notorious jumpers. Those who have owned a wrasse at one time or another have found it someone it wasnt suppost to be.

Do you guys have open top tanks? I'm a little worried about the wrasse/future wrasse in my rimless tank. How long did you have the wrasse before he decided to jump? Do you think it was being chased by another fish?

Every Wrasse I have ever owned has jumped.

Nope and Nope!! Tight fitting Biocube and my 6 line rules the tank. He manged to jump through the very small space (1/4 inch maybe) to the back chambers! Not sure why he did!!!

I lost a six line and a blue hippo tang to the carpet. I had to put up an acrylic wall to keep mine in

My 6 line is very peaceful, however, still very young. The back of my canopy is open to allow for heat to escape. I've thought of closing it up, but afraid the heat will raise my water temp.

you might consider some plastic mesh to put across the back of your canopy because sooner or later your wrasse WILL jump and that will probably be the end of him. That's just my opinion though

where do I find this mesh at?

You can find the mesh at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. I have had the unfortunate experience of losing my Harlequin Tusk to an open top tank.

ok, so is the mesh, hmm in a roll, or piece? the openings are small enough to keep fish in tank but also still open enough to allow heat to escape? i've been wanting to close up the back, just wasn't sure how to do it. I can't picture in my mind the mesh.

What I have used is plastic its a rectangle piece in the lighting section used for commercial lighting.

Mattymalcolm is talking about eggcrate (rigid plastic grid that they use to shield commercial flourescent lighting). Useful for many things in an aquarium.

There is also a flexible roll of gridded "screen" made of black rubber, think chicken wire but with smaller holes and black rubber material instead of wire, you can find out in the gardening section of a home improvement store. Lots of different things would work for your purpose. You could just wander around Home Depot or Lowes for ideas.

yeah, my brother had 2 fish jump through the eggcrate plastic on top of his aquarium. After they had died, he tried to fit them between the eggcrate and couldn't, seems some fish can jump through anything.
