I want to purchase my first RO Unit and really know nothing about them. I was looking at the Coralife Pure-Flo II, the 4 stage 50gpd one. A couple questions off the top of my head are:

I have been reading a lot about the different units coming with a hose and what not. Is there an adapter or something that hooks up inside to a sink faucet or anything?

Is this type sufficient of unit sufficient? Anyone know anything about it?

This will be for my 90g tank. I was hoping to set it up and place the tub into my utility room. The reason I ask about the faucet is because it is too cold here to let it run very much nor can I mod anything on the house since it is base housing.

TIA, Rick

I, along with most others on here, will stay away from Coralife products. Take a minute and check out Buckeye Field Supply. One of the better places to get a RO/DI unit IMO. Plus Russ will answer any questions you may have too.

and here is a link to the different supply fixtures:

I have one of those coralife units. I bought the 25 gal and add-on DI unit. They are not as bad as some make them out to be. They are made with all standard size parts. That means that you can get the filters anywhere and they will fit. I have bought replacement RO, Carbon, DI filter from Buckeye and they fit without any problems. I fact I bought a larger output RO works without any problems.

I do agree that Buckeyes prices are very good and he is very quick to answer your questions.

I've got a Spectrapure now and it's very nice, got it hooked up to the outlet in my laundry room via a Y adapter on the water supply pipe. Before that I had an AirWaterIce.com unit and it was fine too but it had the RO drinking water tank on it so I had it under the kitchen sink.

I have a Buckeye. My Coralife POS is sitting on the garage floor. I'd give it away, but I'm afraid someone might actually use it, and then I'd feel guilty.

I also am looking into getting my first ro unit anyone used the ones on ebay. I seen some that are around 130 that come with the sink tank and everything they seem kind of too good to be true for the price.

If I may add a few cents here... All these units do the exact same thing and most function in the exact same way and look like carbon copies of eachother. Every single one of them start with a sediment filter, then a carbon filter (the large ones have two carbon stages, worthless IMO), then the RO membrane and some finish it off with a DI. Some of the ones you buy have crappy filters, but most even use the same RO membrane which is the bread and butter of the system. The filters are cheap and have to be changed anyway sooner or later so it almost doesn't matter which one you buy, they are in fact all nearly the same.

EDIT: texmex, link us to the RO unit. I've known a few member who got a "cheap" eBay RODI and have been very happy.
