To make a long story short my flowerpot of a year and a half was being hosted by my clown. While I was away for the summer with the National Guard my wifes Goniopora started to wither away and when I returned everything I tried to revive it did not work. Well the clown is now hosting a piece of rock, and I was wondering if I change it with a live flowerpot would it be tricked into hosting the new one on the spot. I know its hit or miss, but has anyone here done something like this to trick a fish and how long did it take for the switch to happen. My wife is really sad about "Nemo" loseing his "friend." Or better yet does anyone here have an idea about another host for him that is simular. Will they host in Frogspawn? Thanks in advance.

i hate to say it, but the clown hosting probably had a hand in the downfall of the gonio. sometimes they will host in different types of euphyllia (frogspawn, hammer, torch) but they obviously host in anemones most often. if you can find a nice bubble tip from someone's tank (after theirs has split), that would probably be the best case.

the flowerpot will always loose to the clown, e inth/out motion of the clown rubs the fp's tentacles against the base and kills each polyp eventually. I would not recommend having a fp in any tank with clowns.

Any coral can suffer once hosted to. I have had clams die once fish begins hosting to it. In fact I've seen clowns kill anemones by disturbing it to much.

Yes. The size of the anemone has to match with the clownfish hosting in it. A Big Clownfish hosting inn a Small Anemone will not work in most cases. Now the reverse instance is just fine.
If I were you I'd look for a RBTA (Rose Bubble Tip Anemone) for your little Nemo. My two Ocellaris Clowns originally hosted in the sand at night. Then all the frog spawn in the tank. Now they host in all the RBTA's in the tank, but it took some time before they figured that out. :
