i am stealing this idea from marsh.
it looks like ike will be heading very close to corpus, and toward us afterward. i know that some areas here are prone to power outage in the case of severe weather. if you would like to make yourself available to help anyone in need in the area with tank related issues, please post here.
obviously, take care of yourself and your issues first, but if things are ok with you then maybe you can help someone in need.
if you would like to volunteer, here is what you can do....
Post your name, location, and contact information and:
1. make as much RO/DI and saltwater as you can store just in case you or someone else needs to do some water changes.
2. post if you have a generator (or power inverter) that someone could use in case of power outage - make sure you have plenty of gasoline
3. anything else you think might be helpful :)
I would suggest that everyone copy/paste this entire thread into a word document and print it out ahead of time in case your power is out and you cant get on your computer.

1. I will have 60 gallons of RO/DI and 55 gallons of mixed salt water.
2. I have a 1000 watt generator.
3. I have some space on the sand-bed in my tank for corals and could house clam friendly fish in my clam tank in a dire emergency. i also have four battery powered air pumps.

Wish I was a little further from the action.........
Great idea. I will not be evacuating if there is an evacuation.
I will help anyway I can.

I'll have about 70 gallons of RO/DI. I have about 3 or 4 buckets of Reef Crystals. I have a small 1000w generator. It's a 2 stroke, so you have to put gas/oil mix in it. Brand new, never even fired up. My 55 is pretty much empty - just a yellow tang, a lemon peel angel, a lawnmower blenny, and a stupid chromis.
P.S. I'm on my way to Corpus Christi in the morning to prep the boat. If anyone THERE needs anything moved to SA, please call me on my cell. I'll be coming back Wednesday evening or early, early Thursday morning.

I will be here in Corpus through it all. My kids (8,4,2) will be up in Leakey.
I have 3 tanks to keep going. Will have 50 gal of RO/DI water and salt avail.
Hope the generator takes care of me. Have a 6500watt portable and 40 gals of gas plus another 35 gals of gas in a couple of the cars I could siphon. All surgeries cancelled for next few days at hospitals so I have time. I have hurricane windows upstairs, but need to board up downstairs tomm.
Just got back from home depot and it was absolute choas.....
Pray I am overprepared.

I just rented a Generator from Lowes. The weekly rental was $115. All the stores are sold out of them around here but there appear to be a decent amount for rental.

It would be nice for it to miss Corpus, though I feel bad for anyone who will be affected. I mean, c'mon, I've been here for two weeks and a hurricane already?! I will be evacuating inland to Three Rivers to my Great Aunt's; the family would probably kill me if I didn't. Good thing the vast majority of my livestock hasn't been shipped down from Michigan yet!

Looks like it is heading towards Galveston / Houston. Best of luck for those in it's path.

I'd stay put if I were you because Houston has a Flood Problem. It was always a problem when lived there and it will never go away with such a high water table in that area.

Got back at 1:30 am from doing boat preperations in Corpus Christi Marina. What a zoo! Marina folks were doing a great job, though.
