A few months back I added a dwarf lion to my 30 gal which was already housing a small perc and BTA among other things. All was fine for the first few weeks, although I was expecting to see more of the dwarf. For the most part he stuck himself in area's where he blended in so well that it would take me quite some tme to locate him. I was worried that one day he would grow big enough to take out my clown, so I tried to keep a close eye on him. After a while I began seeing him "stalk" my clown. He would blend himself into the rock just above the clown and anemone and just watch my little nemo enjoying his home. This happened for 2 nights in a row... which had me rather stressed.
After a couple of sleepless nights I decided to move the lion to my smaller tank which was housing another small clown... I would move the small clown to my 30 gal and hope he got along with my little nemo and just dedicate the smaller tank to raising a dwarf lion. So I got home and began looking for the lion.
After a solid hour of searching he was nowhere to be found. I finally had to break down the tank in an effort to find the little lion but had no luck. I kept searching and searching, but the little lion was gone. A few days later my BTA took a turn for the worse... It keeled over and died before I knew what hit me. A hefty water change insued.
My theory is that the dwarf went for the perc who was happily swimming about in his BTA, but the lion must have missed his strike, landing himself in nemos home to be eaten. Shortly thereafter the BTA must have died trying to digest a poisonous fish.
Anyone ever had this happen? Any other theories? I've been hesitant to get another anemone because i know there is a chance he died from an improper setup. I don't havea sump or anything, just a HOB skimmer.
