Anyone else take a hydrometer to the water brought back from the Coast? The salinity was much higher this year that last.

Might be due to the hurricane storm surge pushing more saltwater into that area. I would think the salinity would drop back down after all that rain water runs off into the bays, etc.

If you were on the GULF OF MEXICO side, you are not going to get low salinity level due to rainfall from the hurricane as the bay and the gulf are not directly connected. The BAY is the BAY and the GULF of MEXICO is just that. Rainfall would have to be extremely significant in order to make the GOM drop salinity. The bays however are either always high or always low when in comes to salinity due to no rainfall or too much of it and not enough water that flushes it all out during high tide. The bays generally dont have anything that is interesting in them. There is also always human fecal matter detected within the bay water as rainwater washes that and other unwanted things right into it from the storm drains.

Corpus Christi Bay is much, much cleaner since the opening of the Packery Channel. Seems like the flow through the bay is much better now.

Storm surge from Dolly at Corpus Christi Marina was around 5 feet. That's a LOT of water.

Salinity should be around 36 ppt.

Also, last year in July there was alot more rainfall compared to this year overall.

Wow, Taking a hydrometer to the breach is defiantly the sign of a serious marine aquarist (is that the word?)
