Do not think the title needs explained, lol. I got a coral beauty from Aces class sale several weeks ago and its been great. Doesnt nip at zoas, shrooms, LPS or SPS, BUT he sure does like clams. It started about a week ago with a casual nip at the shell but has now moved on to nipping at the flesh:cry_smile: There is no way im going to get the fish out because of the foam structure inside the tank has caves and is siliconed into place so unless anyone has any bright ideas the clam will probably have to go and it sure is pretty and actually look to have grown a little the few weeks ive had it.

I think the limited views explains it all, haha. I wont be able to get the fish out so the clam has to go..... Tony I sent you a PM.

Im going to give a fish trap a try to see if I can get the angel out. I really like the clam and was thinking of getting another species. So lets see if a trap will work.

i would choose clams over the coral beauty too, good luck on catching it. for the meantime im sure you can make something of some eggcrate to cover the clam from the angel

Yeah, you Never Know. Fishcraze from marshreef.com can attest to that. These are some of his most famous pictures.

An Emperator angel killed in action by a clam.

wow, crazy pics. Well that wont happen. Took me all of 5 minutes and I made the clam a safety cage 5x2 from eggcrate to hide under untill I get the coral beaut out.

Fish traps work however sometimes it takes a day for the fish to get used to it. Put it in the tank with some food in it and leave it alone. Let them eat the food. The next time you put food in it be ready to trap the fish. Do you have a trap? If not let me know. I have one that will fit a dwarf angel easily.

Ray, since your rockwork is static, make a splitter for your tank out of eggcrate. I have one and have used it several times.

My coral beauty did the same thing on my old 55g! Although it killed a crocea, it did leave a squamosa and maxima alone...and they were all side by side! I guess it just had it out for the corcea :at_wits_end:

My clam is also a corcea, and its fully open now that the fish cant get to it, haha

I use a modified water bottle as a fish trap. Don't know the size of your fish but it works great on smaller species.

Good Luck.

Solid, that's a one in a million pic. Now, I've seen it all. I know the Emperator wasn't cheap, but score one for the inverts!

RayAllen

eggcrate. I made a cage 5x2 and its sitting underneath in the sand. Still get plenty of light from the MH.

Ive thought about the bottle trap, may try a 1 liter bottle because a 2liter would take up a lot of space in the tank.

be careful with a crocea on the sand it can clog their system

Good to know, ive seen many on the sand but had not heard that before. Its been on a rock but I moved it to keep it safe.

yeah they like to attach to rocks, you could keep it on the sand and just attach a rock or something underneath for them.

so for the trap, you just cut off a bit of the funnel for the fish to swim in?

RayAllen
Fri, 11th Jul 2008, 02:15 PM
yes, you basically cut the bottles end off and reverse it. The fish can swim in but are not intelligent enought to get out.

i wouldnt chance it, it may live long and prosper but as soon as something kicks up a sandstorm its likely a goner
