It is because this rule was implemented only a few days ago, and his posting was before the rule took effect.

While I can kind of guess the purpose for the new rule. Do you guys mind laying out your reasoning? Where can one find a list of all the rules?

Sure.
Here are our By-Laws:
http://www.maast.org/forums/showthread.php?p=381049&posted=1#post381049

As per the reasoning behind the 50 post limit for non-charter members, we based our decision on the following:

MAAST is an organization based on education through community. We feel that the 50 post minimum will allow new members to explore the forum, instead of using it as a sort of classifieds website.

We have had people join with the sole purpose of selling an item, and that is usually their only post on MAAST. On occasion, the original poster did not even reply to interested members, which can be frustrating for everyone.

We also hope that if someone comes here to sell their tank due to problems, they will come to find that MAAST is a great resource with a wealth of information. They will then learn how to properly care for their saltwater aquarium and become a part of our community.

Mainly, we are looking for member involvement, in order to see MAAST grow to its full potential.

Maybe frustrated web member will figure out what they are doing wrong with their tank and be able to remedy it and maintain the hobby rather than cut and run right?

Seems like a good idea to me! Also keeps people from coming in selling their junk and running...like spam yardsaling.

Fifty posts is nothing! Ask questions and contribute to conversations even if its about sports...some of the guys seem to have a thing goin in the lounge.

I think it would be cool to have a section for people who are thinking about getting out and why...other than spending more time with family or financial issues...I would say most of the time whatever frustration the member is dealing with...someone...here will be willing to help.

Easy for me to say right as a charter member? Yeah I was a web member first...and joined up for the discounts and benefits. Worth it! I won 50 bucks worth of goodies at the last meeting. I had posted 50 messages in what....two weeks? But then I am a bit hooked.

My friend keeps telling me...there is nothing new in the last FIVE minutes.

Just curious, is the 50 post minimum only for web members trying to start a NEW FS thread or does it also apply to their ability to respond to the FS threads? Can they buy from the FS section, just not start a thread to sell?

I read all the stickies, by-laws, etc. and was not able to tell for sure by the way that it is worded.

They cannot start new threads to sell anything. They can buy, they just have to send PM's to whomever is selling an item they wish to buy.

What is cosidered an educational forum I guess I missed that when reading the rules. I have tried to list like in general reefkeeping. Is it only post you start or every comment. I was a web member for ever and never had problems I received a warning email about the 50% rule and tried to comply but I am still confused because I guess I am banned from buying and selling for ten days. I missed this rule and want to make sure other people dont miss it before they fork out their cash. It is not the rule that makes me upset its that I tried to comply and still got banned the warning was not clear to me of what is educational and whats not.
