Hydor 4 is a good choice... less wattage and heat, compared to other powerhead models

Well what kinda flow do you have in it now? What are you currently using?

I have 3 #4s in my 75. They are all in the back left corner. The bottom one runs at night only, and it is almost to the sand. It points as straight up as possible without creating any splash. The top one is faced directly at the front glass with the top of the hydor about 4 inches below the water line. The middle is left to right, which creates a circular flow. 90% of my rocks are off the glass to allow for max flow around in the tank. The front facing one suspends excess foods because the two flow patterns meet there, and the fish eat nearly all of the food. I have some soft corals in there, and even with the two on during the day, the flow is great, allowing me to have ample flow where it's needed, and subdued areas that match the subdued lighting on the edges of the tank. :)
Basically, flow is good.

I run two number 3's and a closeed loop. I chose not to go with the number 4's becuase they are too big for my taste.

cheers,

What are you keeping in your tank? Is it a FOWLR or a reef tank or what? What you keep somewhat dictates how much flow you need. If it's just fish, you don't need much flow. If you have corals that need more flow, I always loved my Red Sea Wavemaster Pro and 3 or 4 Maxijet 1200's when I had my 75g. It gave some good flow and changing current in the tank. Unfortunately I don't think the Hydors are rated to work on the Wavemaster.

If you need flow, Vortech will give you flow from 300 to 3000 gl per hour, you set the level that you want.

Only the new koralia's are designed to be put on a wavemaker hence the $20 markup so be weary on which one you purchase, with the old ones you get a 50/50 chance that they will work with a wavemaker and it will considerably shorten the life span of the powerhead due to the fact that the switch isn't designed for the constant on/off.

I put two Koralia 3's in my 70G reef tank and the corals didn't like the increased flow at all. They didn't fully extend or open! I went back to using a SCWD and now everything is great and the corals are fully extended and growing like crazy! I put the 3's in my 210 FOWLR and the fish love them!
