Hey guys, I bought a Chiller from a fellow mastard in ound Rock. Its a Teco RA200. I hooked it up and have it running the right direction. I set the temperature to 79f and it has ran for 6 hours even with all lights off, and it didnt drop below 82f according to the chiller's thermostat. I opened the case and the Compressor "Big Black Canister" felt really really hot? Does this mean I bought a broken chiller?

is it a drop in or inline? the compressor will be hot,, it may just have a bad temperature probe.. try moving the temp on your thermostate above the tank temp and see if it shuts off,, also how big is the chiller and how many gallons is it cooling?

Whoa how could anyone even attempt to answer this without better information?
From what I could tell the chiller is rated for about 65g as being the most efficient. You don't list the size of your tank, how much water you are pushing through the chiller (to quick and you won't have a heat exchange at all), what your temp was before and after, where did you locate the chiller? Way to many variables to give an honest answer. See if you run water through the chiller at more than 400lph (about 80gph) the water will not have enough time in the heat exchanger, it will just shoot past the work area and back into the tank. If the chiller is in a sealed cabinet or closet, or to close to a wall it can prevent cool air from blowing over the exchanger. If your tank is 120g and you have a lot of equipment running.... Blah blah blah.....

lol, alright, lets start over again then.
I have a 55g with about 30g sump. My lights run for 8 hours. I have an odyssea 500gph return pump, that it runs through a UV light, then the chiller, then returns to the tank at about 4 1/2ft high. The chiller is sitting next to the stand in the open, on tile. I guess with what I gather, I might need to get a smaller pump to just run the chiller, and have the return pump just go to the tank. It didnt give me a max flow rate, i tried reading on it but theres a pretty thick manual to go through lol. I read most of it but it doesnt say max flow. it says "1bar" which is what? Hopefully thats enough info... I got it from gat2c in round rock. I did try moving the temp above and it does shut off. It does show a different temp than my "sticker thermometer" on the tank, and the glass one inside the tank reads semi close to the chiller, within 1-2degrees.

Okay, So the fan works now, I guess i missed that part. I figured it only kicked on when it got hot, I wiggled some wires that go to the fan around and the fan kicked on. I think that may help now. Im going to let it run when the lights come on and see how it does now.

I got the information about the 400lph from the manual I downloaded to a PDF file I found on the Teco website. You don't need another pump, you can easily "tee" off of your return line, add a ball valve, and then return a separate line to the tank. Just divert some of the main return line.
