What's the most quiet & coolest running return pump in the 900-1000 gph range? Are internals always quieter or are there some externals that are just as quiet & produce less heat?

external pumps should produce less heat...eheim 1262 might work. i believe that this can be run either externally or internally

Internals are usually much more quiet, especially since they are underwater. I think the best and most quiet external pumps are the sequence pumps but they don't make pumps that small. You could try a smaller panworld, they are a lot more quiet than the bigger ones they make. So I'd say if you can use an internal pump go ahead and do it. They do transfer more heat but it not very much if you get a good one like an Eheim and they are usually more quiet and a bit cheaper.

Almost all externals will produce less heat than submersible pumps. With any submersible, all cooling is done by the water, while an external is cooled externally by air and by water through the impeller. The panworld 50PXX, I think that's the number, would probably do the trick. It's the one that's the same as the iwaki 30RXT, not RLT. The japanese iwakis are also pretty quiet.

Personally I cant stand the hum of the external pumps. I have heard panworld, iwaki, little giants... they all hum. When I bought the tank, it had an eheim on it. It was whisper quiet.

I'm thinking about the eheim. This is going to be in my living room 2nd floor apartment and it being as quiet as possible is important. Also, I'd prefer internal to have 1 or 2 less fittings to worry about that could potentially leak versus an external.

Who has the best prices on eheim pumps(online or local)?
