Hey all,

Have a problem with my 72" light hood. The hood that I bought has 3x 250 watt HQIs, and 8 T5 HOs. The issue is that one HQI bulb and 2 of the T5's have gone out. I switched out the ballast with one that I know works and the lamps still didn't light. My next troubleshooting attempt will be to take the light hood down, switch bulbs and see if that changes things.

Any other ideas?

Your easiest and cheapest bet would be to try the bulb swap first. If that doesn't work,, then you may have to take it apart and test the lines in the casing to make sure that the bulbs are actually getting the power they need, if any.

Look at the wiring diagram on the ballast I would bet that a wire connecting the two lamps in series has come out of one of the sockets there for stopping both lamps from working. I take it the warranty is up? Switch wires on the HQI a see if it is the lamp or ballast?

They're practically brand new and still under warranty. I contacted Current USA and they said I should replace the bulbs and possibly the ballast. Not such great troubleshooting advice from them... I don't want to spend MORE money to get the lights that should be working without my intervention. AND it took 3 tries and 3 sets of lights being shipped by UPS before I got 1 good, undamaged unit. I do not want to have to rely on UPS again...

I would ship it back insured and get a new one. UPS does not like anything longer than 4'.

I agree as well. I have the same version, but 48". So far no problems.
