I need the members help. I have friends coming in from Europe for vacation, who want to head to the coast and do some siteseeing and collecting. Having never been down personally, I was wondering if there were any spots better than others. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not much down there that's not predatory to the point of being a huge pain to have in a tank, but there is some stuff. I'd think the jetties at Port A would be a good start... You may need a fishing license.

Yeah, We go to the very end of the jetties with bright flashlights, and just after dark shine it into the rocks.... Bring some minnow nets with the metal ring covering the net so it doesnt tear it....when you see little red beady eyes, those are peppermint shrimp, and someones you will get a algae blenny. We caught 2 blennies, a pipefish, a HUGE anglerfish, and a few other misc things like Purple urchins... We also found a HUGE dragon wrasse, but couldnt catch it, it even let me touch it without moving but we couldnt fit the net in there.... I tried to get its tail but no luck! When you shine the light on the shrimp they go hide quickly... Just shine it quick to see them then turn it off, wait about 2-3 seconds then scoop and scrape the net against the rock, and BAM 2 dozen shrimp and possibly a blenny sometimes in high algea high flow areas... Good luck! You can also go into the grass in corpus by Texas A&M Ive heard thats a good spot...

Can you explain the type of net you are using in more detail? Like one of the cheap minnow nets found at the pet store or something made for fishing like a bait net? Do you do this in shallow areas or deep ones. E.G. on the rocks facing the open ocean or the ones inside? What time of year do you find best? I was there when the kelp washed in last year and found all kinds of interesting stuff in it like yellow sea whip coral, some type of algae eating nudibranch , urchins and a pistol shrimp. But didn't have much luck on the jetty rocks, snails and urchins excluded.

Thanks,
Nick

I had no idea that much stuff lived at the Port A jetties.

We brought back a Sea Cucumber last year, he's still going strong.
