i live in austin and i need a light for my refugium. It can be the flood light type but the bulb needs to be 5000k.

Why 5000k? Thats like 5,000,000. lol You mean 5k? Why are you stuck on the 5k thing?

I use the CF bulbs with the built in reflector it comes in 2700K and 6500K. I get excellent algae growth with the 2700. I got them at home depot.

I bought the 6500k From homedepot.

It's gonna give it a nice cool blue look instead of the yellow, but it should help your algae grow!!!

I think he's right 5,000k (where K = the unit of measure, degrees Kelvin).
It's gonna give it a nice cool blue look instead of the yellow, but it should help your algae grow!!!
Why will it be blue? I thought it had to be more in the 15,000-18,000 k range to be blue. True. It won't be so yellow at 5,000 k. But, I thought 5,000 k is more of a cool white.
(I guess it really doesn't matter. I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything. Just want to make sure I understand what I thought I knew!)

I am not sure just trying to get by cheap on a refugium light. It cost me about $18 for light and fixture.
