white patch on tang

have had this purple tang almost 2 years and I noticed a large white patch on one side of his body...i know it isn't ich but also don't know what it is...any ideas?

sorry, no pics but the patch is gone...maybe it was a scrape or something??

it could have been stressed? tangs do that
